Let's become a fragrance
(2 Corinthians 2:12-17)
“We are the fragrance of Christ before God both to those who are being saved and to those who are perishing” (verse 15).
When you go to a restaurant, you smell food, when you go to a hospital, you smell of disinfectant, when you go to a fish market, you smell fishy, and when you go to a herbal medicine room, you smell of decoction of herbal medicine.
The English word for perfume (香水) is 'perfume', which means 'through smoke'. Among perfumes, 'Chanel No. 5' is said to be a cosmetic that is welcomed by women around the world.
If you add 7 kinds of light, you get white, and if you mix 7 kinds of colors, you get black. It can also be interpreted as saying that the sunlight coming from above is pure white, and the seven colors of the earth belong to the earth and become black when mixed.
Just as there are seven scales of Doremi Fasolasido in music, we believe that we, the saints, who are perfumed with Christ, should emit seven fragrances.
1, the scent of prayer
In Exodus 30:30, there are four incense ingredients that are sounded on the altar of incense in the sanctuary:
Incense sticks like gum from Indian juniper trees, Nagam incense is a fragrance made by grinding the shells of shellfish obtained from the Red Sea coast. It is a rosin-like essence that is used as a diluent by mixing all fragrances together.
In Revelation 5:8 or 8:3, the golden censer in front of the altar is filled with incense, which is called "the prayer of the saints." When we earnestly long for God and pray like the incense of oxalo, the fragrance rises.
Also, when we pray for repentance, confession and repentance by breaking and breaking ourselves like the incense sticks, the fragrance rises. And like incense, the scent rises when we cry and appeal because of the pain of being torn and cut, and like incense, when we become one and pray for each other, the scent rises.
If we quarrel, quarrel, envy, and resent each other, how can we emit fragrance? However, when we love each other and kneel in prayer as one, the fragrance rises in front of the throne of God.
2. The fragrance of obedience
1 Samuel 15:23 says, “Obedience is better than sacrifice.”
It means obedience is better than a fragrant sacrifice. Also, Psalm 81:15 says, "God blesses us even if we pretend to be obedient." The other thing is that you shouldn't pretend to be obedient, but if you obey only "pretend to be obedient," God will show you mercy and mercy.
Even if you force yourself to obey, you will be blessed.
While Peter was washing his nets after not catching any fish all night at Lake Gennesaret, Jesus appeared to him and said, “Go out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch” (Luke 5:4). To be honest, Peter had a hard time obeying his words. “Teacher, we have toiled all night and found nothing, but at your word we will let down our nets” (Luke 5:5).
Also, Simon of Cyrene carried Jesus' cross "by force" (Matthew 27:32), which later became a great blessing (Rom 16:13). We must offer the sacrifice of obedience with an attitude of obedience to God's Word. Only then will it become the fragrance of obedience that pleases God.
3. Scent of Love
Love is giving, giving, forbearing, and forgiving.
Ephesians 5:2 says, “Walk in love, as Christ loved, who gave himself up for us, offering himself as a fragrant sacrifice and livestock to God.” The Lord loves us and has become a fragrant sacrifice.
The 5th Company (Immanuel Company), the 2nd Company (David Company) of the 30th Regiment, and the 11th Company (Joshua Company) of the 30th Regiment were called three religious companies in the Korean Army’s Baekma Unit in Juwol. It is said that they were able to establish a revolutionary major by working together around the
4. Fragrance of the offering
In John 12:3, we read, "Mary took a pound of very expensive perfume, pure nard, and poured it on Jesus' feet, and washed his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the smell of perfume." When the alabaster was broken, the fragrance filled the house.
In Song of Songs 4, it is said that when it is pierced by a thorn, it gives off a lot of fragrance, and when it is blown by the north and south winds, the fragrance spreads far away.
A father living in Arabia gave his three sons 17 horses on their deathbed, so that the eldest son had 1/2, the second son 1/3, and the youngest 1/9, a big dispute arose between the brothers.
At that time, a missionary who was riding a horse learned about this and offered up a horse he was riding on and said, "Put these things together and share them righteously between the brothers. By the way, it was very difficult to share 17 horses among brothers, but by adding one horse, it becomes 18. The first 9 animals, the second 6 dogs, and the youngest 2 dogs were shared, but there was one left and returned to the missionary.
As we were trying to take care of each other, everything was lacking and lacking. However, you can learn a valuable lesson from the scent of offerings that the one invested in one of them will be returned.
5. The scent of hymns
“Do not forget to praise the works of God” (Job 36:24).
“Set up a singer from the tribe of Levi, and make a loud noise of joy” (1 Chronicles 15:16).
“You are holy, O Lord who dwells in the praises of Israel” (Psalm 22:3).
“Praise is the due of the upright” (Psalm 33:1).
A hymn is a prayer with a melody, and when you sing a hymn, joy is expressed outwardly in your heart, appears on your face, and gives great joy and emotion to the heart of the listener. So, a hymn is a refreshing agent for change of direction and a sacrifice for fragrant lips.
Let's sing hymn 89.
6. Scent of Gratitude
At the concert held to commemorate the Day of the Disabled, the disabled poet Song Myung-hee made viewers who were facing the TV screen with her whole body. Deok-Shin Choi added the song to a poem he wrote called 'I'.
“I have no wealth, but I do not have the knowledge that others have.
I do not have the health that others have
I have something that no one else has
I saw what others couldn't
I heard a voice that no one else had heard
I received love that no one else had
I realized what others didn't know
a fair God
I don't have what others have
a fair God
You made me have what no one else has."
We have so much to be thankful for if we have such gratitude for the disabled who are physically disabled.
We should thank God for giving us health, thanks for giving us a job, for giving us children, and for trusting us.
“Give thanks in everything” means to be grateful for even the smallest things.
7. The scent of evangelism
St. Francis of Assasi went out to evangelize with his disciples one day. However, St. Francis carried the burden of the load-bearer, did the work of the laborer digging the land, and helped the wives who weeded. The disciples were puzzled and asked, "If we live with Jesus, they will meet Jesus through the fragrance of our personality."
The reason why we have to emit the fragrance of evangelism is that each of us who believe in Jesus has become little Jesus, so we must cherish one soul above the world, and we must keep in mind that the final judgment is for all.
The reward of an evangelist is ① The light of the firmament will twinkle like the stars (Dan 12:3) ② A multitude of sins will be forgiven (James 5:20) ③ There will be many great rewards in this world and in the world to come (Luke 18: 29) .
Regardless of time or season, we must evangelize ① through the body ② through prayer and ③ materially, so that at least some people will bring their souls out of hell.
