Title Let's Continue the Genealogy of the Gospel
Let's continue the genealogy of the gospel (2 Timothy 1:5)
Christianity places great importance on genealogy because there is a genealogy of life and a genealogy of death. Likewise, there is a blessed Mount Gerizim and a cursed Mount Ebal. (Deuteronomy 27:12-15) Some families have good faith and some have cursed families. (2 Timothy 1:3-5) Timothy's faith is his grandmother's. Lois's faith passed on to his mother Eunice, and her mother Eunice's faith passed on to her son Timothy. How many families of faith like this in our church! Thank you. Let's continue this blessing well! However, if you look at the genealogy of faith that appears in the Bible, it is divided into the genealogy of blessings and curses even between brothers. Cain is the seed of curse, and Abel is the seed of blessing. Isaac is of a blessed lineage, and Ishmael is of a cursed lineage. Jacob is the descendant of blessing and Esau is descended from the curse. So, which side do you want to be on? I bless you in the name of Jesus that you may stand in the line of blessing and become a lineage of blessing.
However, more important than the physical lineage is to continue the spiritual lineage (John 3:6). In the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1, there are unusually five names of women. Tamar (incest), Rahab (a Jericho prostitute), Ruth (a foreign woman), Bathsheba (adultery), and Mary. All of them, except for Maria, are women with complicated pasts. Why is Jesus' genealogy introducing dishonorable women? This means that God's redemptive grace does not necessarily come about through blood. Dear saints in the preface! I pray that you will become a spiritual family that not only carries on the family of good faith, but also inherits that beautiful faith.
