Text: Matthew 5:5
Sermon: Bishop Paul Lee (Incheon Naeri Church)
In Matthew 5, Jesus told us eight ways to receive blessings, and it is called the Sermon on the Mount because he spoke from the mountain. Just as Moses received the word of the law on Mount Sinai, Jesus was preaching the good news on the mountain.
Among these Sermons on the Mount, the eight secrets of blessing are words that we must remember and practice. This is because we Koreans have lived without blessings spiritually and materially for 54 years. Blessings are not obtained by selling land, nor are they created by working until death. Blessing is a gift that only God can give.
We should receive this blessing, the blessing of being spiritually blessed, serving God and people, and living a wealthy life. Moreover, God started working to bless our church and all the families in our church.
If we are to bear the blessings that God gives us now, we must know and practice the 8 secrets that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 5. I can't tell you all eight secrets this time, so I'll just say the third one.
How can I inherit the land? How can I get land? How can I get a lot of land? The words of Jesus are that only the meek can receive these blessings. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Our church should carry out this third word specially so that the church can own a large land and our church members can occupy a lot of land.
Not long ago, in China, there was a poor peasant named Wang Long. His character is very steady, gentle and reliable, so that even if floods or locust disasters or swarms of demons swept through his lands, he would not move, and would rise again on the scorched soil, persisting over and over again, and eventually succeed as a rich man.
This story is about how the Chinese people are blessed in the novel "Earth" by Pearl Buck, who was born and raised in China. This novel moved many people around the world and even won the Nobel Prize for Literature. A man named Wang Ryong was blessed because he was meek.
This novel is neither flashy nor dramatic, nor thrilling, but it is a work with a mellow fragrance that penetrates our hearts while leaving a long lasting impression on Wanglong's gentle heart. This novel moved many people not only because of the literary aptitude of Mrs. Pearlbuck, but also because of the gentle personality of a man named Wang Ryong. A meek person refers to an attitude that regards himself as small toward God and men.
This writer does not mean that the attitude is weak. It is a state of heart that is grateful and rejoicing for the greatness of God and the kindness of men. This "meekness" is synonymous with being humble. never weak. In a sense, only the strong can be meek and humble. A meek person does not pretend that he has little money, nor does he pretend that he has riches.
The Bible speaks of a donkey being gentle compared to a proud horse, and Jesus is a meek king riding on a donkey. Jesus said, Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart. In Numbers 17:3 it says, “Moses was more meek than all men on the face of the earth.” This does not mean that Moses was a weak man.
Moses, who led Israel out of Egypt, was as strong as Mount Sinai. Nevertheless, he did not fight Aaron, Miriam, or the elders; he entrusted all the controls to God, and took care of himself as a benefactor and led Israel. The meekness of Moses was a major cause of Israel's possession of the land of Canaan.
Occupying the land means supreme prosperity and triumph for the Jews. The highest state of the blessed person is to inherit the kingdom of God with meekness. According to the laws of the world, meek people cannot occupy a single acre of land, but God's law grants land to such people, so God's existence is the guarantee of meek people.
When ordinary people claim only their rights, the meek are faithful to their duty. When ordinary people do their jobs, meek people do their job quietly. When ordinary people try to avenge their injustice, the meek are left to the wrath of God.
Nietzsche called the ethic of slavery about this Christian ethic, but God will bless those who truly practice this ethic of slavery. The mountains and fields of this planet do not belong to reptiles or lions and tigers. God has given the mountains and fields of this earth to cattle, sheep, and rabbits, and in every hill and field, cattle and sheep are grazing.
