Title Let's not sin / Matthew 5:29-30
Let's not sin / Matthew 5:29-30
Key Verse: “And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away, for it is profitable for you that one of your bodies is gone and your whole body is not thrown into hell” (verse 30)
Word: The Word you have given us today is a word of great grace when we meditate on its content deeply.
‘If I cause you to stumble’ is a Greek word that means ‘to make you sin, to lead you to destruction, to tempt you’. Therefore, if we translate today's words directly, it means that if there is something that causes us to sin and leads to destruction, we must get rid of it so that we do not sin. The lesson of this text is to get rid of the root of sin attached to our body from our body. If the motive of sin is any part of our body, then as long as it is present, we carry the possibility of sinning. Even if one member does not sin, another member can sin. If the root of sin is gone, how can we sin? Now we live in a society full of insolvency, illegality and injustice. Even Christians who believe in Jesus are involved in major social corruption or commit crimes to obscure the glory of God.
Sin, in any form, separates us from God and deviates from the right path that God has laid out for us. Leaving this level is only a derailment. Just as our physical body becomes sick with germs and dies, sin is a spiritual germ that makes our souls sick and leads to eternal death. Sin is a poison that kills humans.
Because of the disobedience, unbelief, lies and covetousness of Adam, the first human ancestor, sin entered this earth, and many people created various religions to solve the problem of sin, doing good deeds, and making efforts. However, the problem of sin can only be solved by believing in Jesus, the Christ. The saints living on this earth have already received confirmation of salvation through the atonement of the blood of Jesus. That is why we need to sanctify ourselves cleanly from the unclean sins of the world.
In the new year, when we pray and strive not to sin in anything and become clean vessels, we can lead a blessed life as children of God. One of the things God hates the most is sin. Just as rotten food is thrown away, when we sin and fall, the door of our prayers is blocked and all spiritual channels from God are blocked. Dear children of the Lord! Let's live a life that is different from the people of the world this year as a child of God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us have a blessed year in a world full of sin, free from sin. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
