Meditation: What are you looking at?
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: “Then the king sent horses and chariots and many soldiers, and they went by night and besieged the city. The servant of the man of God got up early and went out, and behold, soldiers, horses and chariots surrounded the city. And he said to them, "This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man you are looking for." And he led them to Samaria" (2 Kings 6:14-19).
It is very important to me how I view the events that are going on. Elisha's servant Gehazi went out in the morning and was amazed. They witnessed the complete siege of the Aramaean army. I was desperate for something big to happen. After the prophet Elisha prayed, 'God, open my eyes,' I went out again. Then I could see horses of fire and chariots of fire surrounding the Syrian army. My state of mind has changed.
Today's text has a powerful message for us.
First, the Christian sees what others cannot see. When Gehazi just looked, he saw it with everyone else. Therefore, only the armies of the Syrians were seen, and no horses of fire or chariots of fire were seen. However, because of Elisha's prayer, the eyes of faith were opened to see the army of God, and Gehazi was moved (verse 17). A Christian is someone who sees things that no one else can see. I pray that you will open your eyes, see the army of God, and see the hand of grace and live your life.
Second, the Christian is one who knows the meaning of what he sees. There are no meaningless events. What is the significance of the events Gehazi sees now? The people of God are in charge of God.
Third, the saints are those who see the distant future and enjoy life with the Lord. At least 10 or 20 years from now, you should be able to see yourself standing before God. The Arameans closed their eyes. So you go to the wrong place. Go where you shouldn't go. I don't even know where I'm going. This is a great misfortune.
Prayer: God, help us to see far and live together with God. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
