Letter to the Church of Thyatira
Revelation 2:18-29
We have learned the letter of the Lord to three of the seven churches in Asia Minor so far.
First, the place of worship was rebuked for abandoning their first love. The next church in Smyrna was faithful to death even in the midst of tribulation and persecution. If you are faithful to death, God will approve you. Next, the Church of Pergamum was a compromising church. In other words, nothing is as dangerous as half faith.
Thyatira was a wool-industry city located 64 kilometers southeast of Pergamum.
It adopted Greek civilization after being conquered by Alexander the Great, but became a Roman colony around 190 BC. It is said that he was in charge of more than half of the new world trade.
There were trade unions such as woolen, weaving, dyeing, and ceramics, especially the wool and dyeing industries.
As Lydia, a mercenary merchant who converted in Philippi (Acts 16), was from here, it was a city with a dyeing industry. And this city also worshiped foreign gods, of which the sun god Apollo, the son of Zeus, was the most zealous.
In fact, out of the seven churches that received the Lord's letter, Thyatira is comparatively less important.
Nevertheless, the Lord is sending his longest letter to the church in that city.
The Lord's interest in the church has nothing to do with the importance of the city in which it is located.
In verse 18, the expression, “The Son of God, whose eyes are like flames and his feet are like shiny copper,” is the reason why Junam appeared to the Thyatira church in this all-seeing and all-knowing form, by the church members of Thyatira, Jezebel. because he accepted and committed the fornication he taught.
In verse 19, “work” is the same word as the act of verse 2, but it is not an act of faith.
When I say I know the business, I know your deeds.
It means you know the life you've been living.
They say that the Lord knows their lives, which are made of love, service, and patience.
They do well in caring for the Saints in need. They did a good job of caring for the saints in need.
Verse 20 records the Lord's rebuke.
It is today's business that is still in the same environment as Thyatira. What are the biggest concerns of working Christians? It means that you have to drink for the sake of the company, and there is the pain of going to places you shouldn't go. When you ask someone to quit the company because of drinking, you need trust that you can put down, and there are many cases where many people can't win and compromise.
I often meet believers who think that they have to stop drinking for business.
