Jeremiah 14:1-9 Lord! do not forsake us! Subject: 2005. 8. 21.
◎ Introduction
: The Mosaic Law warns that if Israel breaks and disobeys God's covenant, it will suffer various calamities with different curses.
※ Israel broke the covenant by worshiping foreign idols and disobeying God, and as a result, the curse of the curse was inevitable.
※ The prophet Jeremiah tells Israel that God's calamities will come to the people as a result of breaking the covenant: drought, sword, famine, and plague.
※ Jeremiah himself thinks of the tribulation that Judah will face and offers an intercessory prayer to God with a sad heart. But Jeremiah's intercession was not accepted because Judas had been opposed to God for too long.
1. A severe drought prophesied (1-6)
※ The word came again from God to Jeremiah.
※ Message: A ‘severe drought’ will come, and not only the people of the city of Jerusalem, but also the farmers and animals will suffer severe pain (disaster) as they will not have access to water.
One). Townspeople suffer (2-3)
※ The townspeople gathered at the city gate looking exhausted from a long and severe drought in the land of Judah, mourning and crying toward the sky.(2)
※ “Sit on the ground” is an expression of discouragement and sadness.
※ A serious example of drought is presented.
: The nobles (leaders) sent their servants to ask for water no matter what they did, but the servants could not find water anywhere and ended up only bringing empty vessels. The servants covered their heads because they were so sorry for this tragic incident.
※ “Cover your head” This is an act of not thanking your head with both hands, and it is an action taken when you are very sad, embarrassed, or ashamed.
2). Farmers suffer (4)
※ The ‘extreme drought’ was even more serious not only for the people of Seongeup, but also for the farmers.
“There is no rain on the ground, so the ground is cracked...” Like the people of the city who had to plow and sow seeds, they went to ask for water in a burning pain, but failed due to embarrassment, sadness, and pain. hugged thanks
3). Animals suffer (5-6)
※ The ‘extreme drought’ has had a serious impact not only on people but also on animals.
※ Schiele
① “Doe of the Field” Even though the doe is an unusual animal with an attachment to its young, it is to the point of neglecting its young against its instinct in a situation where there is no grass to eat due to a severe drought.
② “Wild donkey” Wild donkeys are free-spirited and like to roam around, but such an animal climbs a bare mountain and wanders around, panting with its mouth open like a jackal.
※ “I do it with my eyes wide open” This expression describes the miserable death of animals that have fallen from exhaustion from drought.
2. Jeremiah's Intercessory Prayer (7-9)
※ Jeremiah, who declared a severe drought to Judah, also intercedes for the people of Judah, thinking about their misery.
※ Jeremiah ① first confessed the sins of Judah, saying, “We have sinned against you.”
② Next, he pleaded for mercy and salvation by saying, “Do not forsake us.”
One). confession of sins (7)
※ “We,” Jeremiah, identified himself with the people, recognized the sins of the people as his own problem, and prayed to God.
※ Jeremiah's Triple Confession (If you look at the contents, there is no reason to ask for forgiveness)
① “Though our iniquities testify against us”
② “Because our corruptions are many”
③ “We have sinned against you”
※ Justification: The name of Jehovah God, who made a covenant with Israel, will not be put to shame before the nations. Therefore, considering the sins of Judah, there is no reason to ask for forgiveness, but for the sake of God's own glorious name, he asks for forgiveness and the grace of salvation.
