Luke 23:33-43 Forgive us Subject: 22. Forgiveness. 2006. 7. 23.
◎ Introduction
: The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the most shocking event and surprising fact in human history.
※ It is shocking because it is an incident where the creation killed the Creator. It is a remarkable event because it is the event in which the Creator saved creation.
1. Crucifixion (33)
※ Crucifixion is the culmination of sin and love.
※ There has never been a more brutal form of execution than crucifixion in human history. (Just imagine)
※ The crucifixion was carried out on a hill called “Skull” (Latin Calvary; modern Calvary). (Matt. 27:26-38)
※ Notice the fact that two prisoners were crucified with Him. Why?
: Because all men have sinned against God, rebelled against God, and have not kept the commandments. (Rom 3:23, 1 Tim 1:15, 1 Pet 3:18, )
2. Forgive us (34)
※ Christ interceded for the enemies. This is love and forgiveness
It is his appearance. He prayed for those who crucified themselves for the cross.
One). Forgiveness (34)
① It was foretold that Christ prayed for transgressors. (Isa 53:12)
② Christ prayed for those who crucified Himself.
* Because of Christ's death, God was able to forgive people's sins.
(even the sins of those crucifying Christ can now be forgiven)
③ Those who were crucifying Christ did not know what they were doing.
God does not condemn anyone who has personal trust in Christ.
* Anyone who has committed any sin will be forgiven if they just ask.
2). Condemned (34)
※ The soldiers wagered on the clothes of Christ. It shows Jesus being stripped of his clothes by selfishness, greed, and the sins of men.
① It was customary for executioners to take on the clothes of crucified prisoners.
* Jesus' cloak was to be shared amongst themselves. (John 19:23-24, Psalm 22:18 prophesied)
② The soldiers stripped Jesus of the clothes that would perish. This act is symbolic.
* In this way, everything that would perish was removed. In this it was revealed that Christ Himself would abolish death and bring the light of life and immortality. (2 Timothy 1:10)
3). The mocker (35-37)
※ There was a misunderstanding of the people's ridicule and the salvation of Christ. (Look at those who ridiculed and ridiculed)
① People and religious people mocked Christ's claim that he was the Savior and Messiah.
* This is a complete misunderstanding of the Messiah. We need to get rid of the misunderstanding.
* They were given a chance to believe. For Christ did not hide it.
* The sinful crowd and religious people riding on their infidelity led each other to do shameful things (1 Timothy 2:5-6, 1:15)
* It is the person's heart, not the position or occupation, that guides people.
② The soldiers mocked and ridiculed Christ.
* They ridiculed Christ's claim to be king, but did not understand the meaning
(John 18:36, 33-37, Matthew 27:11)
* Fresh wine: Immediately after His crucifixion, Jesus offered an anesthetic wine (taunting), but Christ refused the fresh wine (Matthew 27:34, Mark 15:23).
3. Three Crosses (38-43)
One). King Jesus Christ (38)
※ There was a plaque of guilt attached to the cross, but this is an accusation stemming from a pure misunderstanding.
※ The accusation of “king of the Jews” was intended to ridicule the Jewish authorities and denounce Christ’s claims. But God has dealt with even this sovereignly and used this sign to proclaim the truth to the whole world. (Luke 23:38)
※ The very charges against Jesus proclaimed the divinity and glory of Jesus. (Phil 2:8-11, 1 Timothy 6:14-16)
2). Unrepentant robber's unbelief (39)
※ An unrepentant robber shows a hardened heart even at the moment of death.
※ He needed to be saved and forgiven by taking full advantage of this last opportunity (100%) to examine the claims of Christ.
※ One prisoner mocked even the very idea that Jesus was the Christ (John 3:16~18).
3). Thieves who repented and reached salvation (40-43)
※ It shows the true repentance of different robbers. This shows the steps leading to repentance and salvation.
① He feared God (40)
② He declared that Jesus was righteous (41)
③ He asked Jesus to remember him (42)
※ Jesus promised the thief eternal life ← Attention
* Those who repent will be with Jesus in Paradise on that very day. (Paradise: Luke 16:23)
(John 17:24, 2 Corinthians 5:8, Philippians 1:23, John 12:26)
