Malachi 2:10-17 Values to be kept and the view of marriage
In today's text, the prophet Malachi is particularly pointing out the marriage life of the people of Judah. It is good to cast off the values of the past, but there is a principle that cannot be undone before God. Marriage is one of them. God tells us not to just unconditionally break the values of the past, but to restore the right principles first.
the right standard for marriage
The prophet Malachi first sets out the right standards for marriage. Look at verses 10-11. Instead of telling us to punish those who divorced or divorced their wives unconditionally, God is setting the right standard by explaining the principles of the Bible.
The Israelites were a separate people. It was a very special nation that was set apart in front of all mankind and the nations to fulfill the covenant and deliver the light. Marriage to a stranger was like giving up that very distinction.
There are two types of humans before God. The first is those who live for the lusts of the flesh. They are people who can divorce and have extramarital affairs for the pleasure of the flesh. God calls these people “the unclean”. However, there are people who are different from them. They are people who hold their lusts to the Word. God calls such people “a godly people.” It is in order to obtain such a godly people that God does not destroy this world directly, but protects it. The reason God is patient with this world for so long is to get a godly people who can crucify the lusts of the flesh and keep Himself holy.
The people of Judah who returned from Babylon had two tasks to do. The first is to restore godly worship, and the second is to restore the principle of life pleasing to God. God is never stingy. As long as you live according to the right principles God has set forth, He will bless you in any situation. Gentlemen, it is not easy to live by the Word, but the principle of the Word suggests the happiest way for us. God, who knows me better than I do, is speaking now to lead us on the path of happiness. As I have said before, the word is like the rail price of a train. Even though rails may seem uncomfortable, trains are the safest when running on rails. If the rail is cumbersome and you want to go faster, the train has no choice but to derail.
God loves us. In fact, God is a God of love who works together for good even if we do not live according to these words. But the cost is too high. Please don't go back too far. If the Word says so, then the happiest way is to believe and go. Jesus is the most precious gift God has given us, but it is this Bible that gives purpose and happiness to our lives.
The importance of the marriage covenant
Marriage is absolute before God. To create a beautiful family, you must have Jesus Christ at the center. Then the home itself becomes a temple. In order for the marital relationship to be always new, we need to work hard on each other in various areas, especially to keep growing in faith. Each couple should have their own vocation. Couples must build the temple together, but each must personally come before God, receive forgiveness of sins, and have their own closet filled with the Holy Spirit. The family, along with the church, are the two basic units of life that God has given us. When it collapses, other parts of life are bound to collapse as well. That is why the covenant of marriage is so important.
Things that prevent prayers from being answered
The Prophet points out that the most important reason why the prayers of the people of Judah are not answered lies in this lustful marriage. Look at verse 12. The important question for us is not how happy we live in the world, but how much God delights in us and blesses us. To keep marriage chastity, above all else, you must ‘guard your heart.’ Our hearts are constantly trying to run beyond the boundaries set by God and run greedily. Guarding that heart is the way to keep happiness and to live abundantly before God. If you want to keep this gift of marriage well, you must unconditionally beat yourself up and obey the Word.
Do you know what the barometer of your faith is? home. A home is a small church. The church is an extended family. What we are at home is our level of faith.
There are people who are naturally good at home. There are people who do events and take good care of their children. Other than that, are you dealing with your wife and children with faith? It is whether you love and serve for the spiritual health of your wife, husband, and children. In other words, if I have grown in faith, my wife and husband are spiritually healthy. You can never get spiritually sick.
Husbands should listen. You are a priest. A priest who spiritually serves, cares for, and loves the family. When the priest is destroyed, the family is destroyed. As a spiritual priest, I hope that you will become a priest who bears the sins of the family, prays, heals pain, serves and takes care of them.
Wives, listen carefully. Now husbands are the poorest people in the world. In such a fierce world, you live with very poor people who are being beaten to and fro. So please respect it. You must learn to respect your husband even if it is a little lacking. Men are very simple. A little erection and they will treat you like a queen. So, the Bible tells wives to serve their husbands as the church serves the Lord. I told husbands to love the church as the Lord loves the church.
That's right. The sincerity of faith is home. Even if you pray a lot outside and are recognized by people, if you are not recognized by your wife, husband, and children, your faith is false. It's still like a child.
Marriage is a covenant ceremony where God is witnessed. Verse 15. Ladies and gentlemen, the home is a place where religious education takes place, a place where blessings flow, and a place where godliness is achieved through parents.
Let's look at verses 16 and 17. There are two things God hates. One is divorce. The second is a person who covers abuse with clothing. What does this mean? This means that he abused and assaulted his wife.
Today's text explains the values we must keep. The Israelites, who looked only at God, experienced great confusion as they experienced the Gentiles. They rationalize that it's okay to marry strangers. The people of God are separate people. Therefore, we need to establish a value system based on the will and word of God. Because that is the path to happiness and people who experience heaven.
