Title Mark 10:45 Who is greater?
Contents Mark 10:45
A person who is willing to be like that person in order to serve and love them, with the obvious anticipation of the outcome. That is, have you ever seen a person who agreed to be treated the same by other people or to suffer the same thing that person suffered?
Occasionally, young people, burning with the passion of love, of all ages and ranks, choose to become like him by being willing to be their spouse. Also, like Father St. Damien, he himself gets leprosy first in order to convey God's love to leprosy patients. But it is not easy to find someone among us in this world so eager to rise to any higher position who is willing to humble himself to serve another.
Even the disciples, who majestically followed Him, leaving behind their jobs and family for Jesus' sake, can't help but think of us bitterly when they hear and ask, "Who is the greater?" Even in a small group of only 12 people, it seems that it is our inescapable nature to want to be number one. In front of such disciples, Jesus tells the paradoxical rule of the kingdom of God: 'Those who want to become great must be servants, and those who want to be first must become servants of all.' Such service was the purpose of Jesus coming to this earth. “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45).
We often think of Jesus as an example of service, washing the disciples' feet covered in dust in the desert. However, the image of the master kneeling in front of the disciples for just one moment is not the culmination of serving. The culmination of Jesus' service lies in the incarnation of Jesus, that is, He became like a human being. He who made the world with God the Father in the beginning became a part of countless creations. Moreover, he was born in a stable while listening to the cries of horses as the son of a poor carpenter who was hardly treated among humans. He who bore all human suffering and sorrow and received the same treatment as humans, ultimately gave up his most precious life as a ransom for mankind.
Serving is like that. Being willing to be like that person, like Jesus. That is the paradoxical secret of the kingdom of God that makes that person and me happy. Who will I serve today? Are you willing to be like that person in order to do Jesus' service and love?
