Contents

Mark 11:27-33 Jesus' Election Topic: 16. Authority. 2009. 12. 20.

Introduction

: Religious people and Jewish leaders faced Jesus head-on.

They try to arrest Jesus and kill Him by imposing a trap on everything He did in front of the people and making people distrust Him.

Jesus criticizes self-righteousness and unbelief very strongly. Anyone who has stubborn unbelief will only perish.

1. The question of authority. (27-28)

2. Human choice. (29-32)

3. Jesus' answer. (33)

1. The question of authority. (27-28)

Jesus was in the temple, walking alone around one of the temples of meditation and prayer. (27)

The chief priests, scribes, and elders were perplexed, not only very angry, but also full of wrath.(27)

They had many opportunities to learn about the truth, but they were held captive by stubborn unbelief.

Religious people say, “By what authority do you do these things? Who gave this authority to do these things?” This was the beginning of the questioning of Jesus' nature. (28)

One). What is the authority of his ministry?

“By what authority do you do these things?” He was welcomed by the people as the Messiah and entered the city as king. He drove out traders from the temple, healed the blind and the lame, and was worshiped by children, who proclaimed Jesus the Messiah.

This is a question that leaders must think about once in a while. They are asking questions that will do their own thing.

2). Where did his authority come from?

“Who gave this authority to do these things?” They knew Jesus' claim. They just refuse to believe it.

① Jesus could claim to act by his own authority, or he could claim that his power was his.

* If he had, the authorities would have immediately distrusted him and arrested him, causing great anger.

② Jesus may claim that he belongs to God and that he came from him and acted with the authority of God.

* Then they would have arrested Jesus for blasphemy. And God commanded the temple to be overthrown.

You will argue that you can never do it.

Who are they? Are you just a man, or are you truly the Son of God?

Does he belong to man, or does he come from his own nature as God? are asking

2. Human choice. (29-32)

Jesus already knew that they were plotting a plot.

Jesus made people choose through the example of John the Baptist. (29)

① Jesus responded from their point of view.

* He said that if they answered Jesus' question first, he would answer it.

② You asked a question that could have a surprising effect. “Was John’s baptism of heaven or of man?”

* This is actually the answer to them.

1) “Was John's baptism from heaven or from man?” Jesus made them choose. (30)

① Did John come from heaven? If so, then Jesus also came from heaven.

* John did not lie because he came from heaven.

“… The Lamb who takes away the sin of the world … ” (John 1:29,34)

② Is John just a man? Then Jesus is just a man.

* If the work of John and Jesus came from man, how can the countless lives and wonderful miracles that have been changed be explained?

This simple question shows the absurd and stubborn attitude of unbelievers even in this day and age.

(Matthew 3:1-17; Luke 8:29; John 10:25, 36-38, 41-42; 14:10)

2) “We consulted with each other” and discussed with each other for answers. (31)

This is a deliberate attack and a deliberate refusal.

Their interest is not in discovering the truth, but only in gaining respect and maintaining safety while maintaining their status.

① They deliberately denied Jesus.

* They are afraid of the losses (position, power, wealth, fame, status, security) they will suffer by confessing Jesus.

② They were afraid of people's reactions (insults, ridicule, persecution). deliberately become cowardly

③ They deliberately chose the convenience of not knowing.

* It is said that they choose not to know because they choose convenience rather than principles, and their own safety rather than standing for the truth.

(John 1:29,34; 10:25, 36-38; 14:10)

3. Jesus' answer. (33)

Religious people lie, saying, “We do not know.”

Jesus answered, “I am also . . . will not come to you.”

They loved the world rather than God and the hope that God gave them. So they denied Jesus and chose the expediency of cowardice.

The attitude and agnosticism that cannot draw conclusions due to lack of faith are very tragic.

It's not that they couldn't be sure, they didn't even try to confirm. With this stubborn unbelief, we can never know Christ. Even if you reveal the truth, I will refuse.

(Luke 16:31; John 5:40; Matt 22:3; Jer 7:13,15; Deut 30:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6:2)
