Why Jesus (Matthew 1:21-25)
Many heroes and great men such as Confucius, Buddha, Muhammad, Socrates, Napoleon, Alexander, Genghis Khan, etc. rose to the horizon of history and lost again. Among the countless names, why should we call on the name of Jesus and believe in him?
Among the KBS TV programs, there is something called "My Hometown". One day, a noodle factory run by Kang Hee-tak in Eumseong, Chungcheongbuk-do was introduced. Kang Hee-tak is a 70-year-old man this year, and he is a first-class disabled person with both hands amputated in an accident while in the military. He overcame his disastrous obstacles and has been operating a noodle factory for 25 years.
So delicious...
Hee-tak Kang, who was listening to those words, replied, "I have the greatest joy in hearing those words." Faith in Jesus cannot be compared to taste, but if we dare to compare what we believe in Jesus to taste, we believe it because it has a taste, and it cannot be compared with any other taste, and it does not compete with other tastes.
The current Christian population in Korea is 12 million. Of course, there will be people who go to church without even knowing the taste because of their dry skin. However, most Christians liked Jesus, so they believed in Jesus and became Christians.
Why must it be Jesus?
Let me tell you why.
In short, because He saves me from sin. Matthew 1:21 says, "You will give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
The Bible defines us all as sinners. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
"Everyone has sinned" means that everyone is a sinner.
The Greeks called sin "Hamartia". It means to miss.
Among the sins, the greatest sin is to go astray without believing in the God who created the heavens and the earth and human beings.
There is one such thing as an accidental shot. Accidentally firing or missing a shot is an accident. It is Hamartia to go astray like a random accident, and to live freely.
Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death.” It means that if you commit a sin, you die. But the purpose of Jesus' coming was to save us, who would die for our sins.
“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
If you sin, you die. However, Jesus came to this world for us who have sinned, and the Bible teaches that whoever believes in Jesus will receive forgiveness of sins and have eternal life.
There are three kinds of people in this world. The first is someone who believes in himself. There are people who believe in what they enjoy or have, such as their health, fame, popularity, knowledge, and possessions. I was diagnosed with gastric cancer at Samsung Hospital on April 2nd last year and had gastrectomy on April 20th. All my life, I was confident in my health. When other people say that they have stomach surgery or have stomach upset, they said that it must be because of overeating or stress.
However, there was one thing that I realized after experiencing the incident and undergoing gastrectomy. It was "Health is not something to believe"
Life is fleeting. It must be remembered that health, knowledge, popularity, fame, possession, condition, these are use values, not absolute values.
In other words, it is not believable. There was a talent who was running at the top of popularity. I was inundated with requests to appear here and there, and I could not sleep at night or eat on time due to overlapping appearances in movies, dramas, and plays. Then one day he fell. And I had to rest for 6 months. Six months have passed since then, but requests for appearances have not come as in the past. He was starting to get nervous. Then I started getting into drugs.
Popularity, fame, knowledge, or possessions are not to be trusted. They are utilization values, not trust values. There are people who believe in the second person. Humans are social beings that can only survive when they believe in their husbands, in their wives, in their parents, in their children, in their brothers, and in their neighbors.
But what we do know is that the relationships in which humans live and believe are also not absolute. There was a woman who came to me saying that she could not live any longer and had to divorce me. The reason for the divorce was simple. It just doesn't match your personality. When I asked how it didn't fit, the husband said that he was in a hurry, and he was slow, and his husband was not afraid.
I answered her. It was because they could become a fantastic couple if they were in harmony with each other, saying, "It's a relationship that God has given you." Two days later, my husband came. The reason for divorce he suggested was that "I ignore my husband, I talk too much, and I never complain to my husband."
I gave him this prescription. "A long time ago, when I was entering a restaurant, the doll on the desk in the door bowed to me and said hello to you. As I left after eating, the doll on the other side thanked me. When I asked how much it cost, the installation fee was 289,800 won. "If you want to be greeted like that, don't live with people, buy with dolls"...
We have to trust each other, but it is difficult to trust each other between people. Third, people who believe in Jesus. Jesus died on the cross and rose again three days later. And you are still with me. In Matthew 28:20, He said, "I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Should we believe in things that come and go or do we believe in Jesus who is with us forever? Do I have to believe in someone who stays with me for a while and then leaves, or should I believe in Jesus, who never leaves me?
The important thing is that if I believe in Jesus, my food, popularity, fame, material things, and health are valuable.
that it will be valuable. And when a couple believes in Jesus together, their relationship gets better.
It means that parent-child relationships improve, sibling relationships improve, and neighborhood relationships improve.
There is no reason not to believe in this good Jesus. The Bible tells us who Jesus is
It is revealed in various aspects. In Mark 5, a man possessed by a demon saw Jesus.
There is a saying that I saw and ran and bowed in a loud voice. "Jesus, Son of the Most High God
woman," he said.
Then the Lord said, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit," and the demon departed from the man. Even the demons recognized Jesus. What would happen if people did not recognize Jesus, whom even demons recognize?
In Luke 1:23, Jesus said, "He will become great, and he will be the Son of the Most High." In Matthew 27:54, Roman officers, centurions and soldiers testified that “this was truly the Son of God” Jesus, who saves me from my sins, who is with me forever, so we believe in and receive Jesus. .
Alexander, who served as the first dean of Princeton Theological Seminary in the United States, died on October 22, 1851, after returning to work as a professor for 40 years. There is a famous saying he left on his deathbed. "When we are thirsty on a hot summer day, the most we need is a glass of water, not the water of the open sea. What we need, as always, is not the whole world, but Jesus Christ."
That's right. We need Jesus. Because only Jesus saves me and is with me forever.
H. W. BeeCher, who worked as an evangelist with Moody, said:
“Jesus never painted any pictures. But the masterpieces of Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci are mostly the products of inspiration from Jesus.
Jesus never wrote a single attempt. However, world-famous poets such as Dante and Milton also left masterpieces with inspiration from Jesus. Jesus never composed a single piece of music. But the works of great masters such as Haydn, Handel, Beethoven, Bach, and Mendelssohn also produced works of praise to Jesus."
That's right. Great poets, musicians, artists, sculptors, and novelists knew, believed, and exalted Jesus.
A friend asked Tennyson, a famous poet born in England. “What do you think of Jesus?” Tennyson, who was walking silently, said, “For me, Jesus is like the relationship between this flower and the sun. Just as this flower cannot but die without sunlight and heat, I too will die without Jesus. three"
Why Jesus?
Because if you believe in him, you will live.
Because trusting him makes you happy.
Because he is with me.
Because he won't leave me.
Because he protects and guides me.
Because he is my everything.
