Contents

Matthew 21:1-11 Blaming the colt Topic: 13. Christ. 2011. 4. 17.

Introduction

: The last week of Jesus' life is called Palm Sunday, a period that has long been called the Holy Week.

He is intentionally revealing that he is the Messiah and the one who was prophesied to come to the world as the Savior.

He is the fulfillment of prophecy and the Messiah.

1. Purposeful fulfillment of prophecy. (1-5)

2. Deliberately honored. (6~9)

3. The problem of the people in Jerusalem. (10-11)

1. Purposeful fulfillment of prophecy. (1-5)

1) Beginning the last week in Gethbage, he sent two disciples on a special mission. (One)

“Gebage” The name of this city means “house of the fig tree”.

He spent the night before with Lazarus, Mary, and Martha (John 12:1ff.) and came to Jerusalem on foot.

All he had was a poor man with only feet.

2) He sent two disciples to bring a donkey and a young colt. (2~3)

The Lord showed divine omniscience to further clarify his claim to be the Messiah.

* As God, he knew exactly where the beast was, what to say, and what the owner would lend it to.

This is an important element of this case.

What is important is the power and authority of Christ throughout this event.

* Shows that He is the Messiah, the Lord God of all men, ruler over their thoughts, their possessions, and even their beasts.

3) He intentionally tried to fulfill the words of Zechariah 9:9. (4-5)

He made detailed preparations to enter Jerusalem.

“Saying to the Daughter of Zion” is a warning to the people of Jerusalem.

“Your king is coming to you” The king of Jerusalem will come as they expected. but not what they expect

I mean, it's going to be a little different.

* We are so absorbed in our thoughts that we often miss what is actually happening. If you expect too fervently, what you expect

Even the slightest difference can make you miss it even though it actually happened.

“He was humble” The Messiah would not come as a ruler, but in a humble form.

He will come to win hearts and lives, not physically and materially, but spiritually forever.

(Mark 11:1~11; Ephesians 1:3; compare Matthew 11:29)

“The king is coming to you ~~~~ blaming the young of the beast” The Messiah was not a conqueror on a white horse, but a peace on a donkey.

that he is coming as a king.

* God came to win people's hearts and lives through the glorious news (gospel) that God is love and peace. (Eph 2:13-18)

This is a thorough preparation for the prophecy and its fulfillment. It shows that Jesus is very dramatically expressing himself as the Messiah.

it is to give

God did not want people to misunderstand His work by clearly and unequivocally proclaiming that the Son was His Messiah.

2. Deliberately honored. (6~9)

1) He was purposely exalted by his disciples. (6-7)

The disciples paid their respects (respect and recognition) to Him. I didn't know what the English was, but I did what you asked.

The Lord was not stable. To make Jumi comfortable, she took off her coat and laid it on the back of the donkey. This is their homage to their Lord

It was an expression of (respect and recognition).

The point: Christ is now undoubtedly claiming the majesty and authority of a king.

Important: It is the fact that he appeared in the most humble form at the time in asserting the dignity and rights of the king.

The symbol is that he rides a colt instead of the conqueror's horse.

He rejects all ideals of a secular and material kingdom.

He came to save Jerusalem and the world, but not through war, but through peace.

2) He was purposely exalted by people. (8~9)

“The crowd” was a large crowd. The crowds began to gather in the morning with excitement to see him who raised Lazarus from the tomb.

* In the Gospel of John (John 12:17-19), there were so many people that the Pharisees said, “The whole world is after him.”

The group did two things.

① They received him as king.

* They took off their cloaks, cut down branches and spread them out in his path.

* This shows that you are greeted as Israel's promised King as an example of respect and homage to Him.

② They received him as the Messiah.

* Shout “Hosanna”. “Now save me. Save us, we pray.”

* “Son of David” This was a title for the Messiah. (Matthew 1:1,18; 3:11; 11:1-6; ...Luke 7:21-23)

* “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord” means to praise the one sent by God’s authority.

* “Hosanna in the highest” “We pray, O God, save us, O Lord of the highest, we pray

Save now through the one you sent.”

3. The problem of the people in Jerusalem. (10-11)

“The whole city was in a commotion” and there was a commotion among the people of Jerusalem. The whole castle shook. They say that the whole world is following me (John 12:19).

The Romans felt that there might be a mass revolt.

The Herodians feared that they might overthrow and lose power.

The Pharisees were agitated by deeper envy and malice.

People believed that the day of their liberation had finally come in Jesus of Nazareth.

“Prophet” refers to one sent from God, that is, the Messiah.
