Two believers (Matthew 6:1-18)
Let's take off the thick mask of eating out
We must not cling to human-centered piety and revival without God.
Jesus mentioned two believers in the Sermon on the Mount.
For the first kind of believer, the phrase “to be seen by men” (6:1, 6:5, 6:16) is repeated three times. If you look at the words “to gain the glory of men” (6:2), it is said that there were believers who practiced the three major godly lives at that time almsgiving, prayer, and fasting with human eyes conscious. Next, “Do it in secret” (6:4), “Pray to your Father who is in secret” (6:6), “But that you may make it visible to your Father who is in secret” (6:18). You mentioned a person who lives a life of faith.
I. Let's get rid of the Phariseeistic eating out.
This teaching of Jesus is a rebuke of the Pharisees at that time for leading a godly life “to be seen by men” and “to be glorified by men.” Salvation is a life of offering sacrifices to God, prayer is a spiritual discipline, and fasting is a godly discipline of offering a body that is not governed by God. Relief is for poor brothers, prayer is for God the Father, and fasting is for the self who has not given up on sin.
Toynbee said that a person who is good at “Resignation and Return” is a hero. You need to know when to step back and hide and know when to appear. Jesus hid for 30 years and worked for 3 years. Moses learned 40 years, hid 40 years, and worked for the last 40 years. After three years and six months of hiding, Elijah was victorious in an instant on Mount Carmel with an answer to prayer. The Apostle Paul, after repenting on the road to Damascus, lived in seclusion for 3 years in Arabia and 6-7 years in his hometown of Tarsus. There is no victory in faith without a secret life. What the hypocrites like is not almsgiving, prayer, or fasting itself, but rather to imitate and gain “glory from people.” II. What reward will the two believers receive?
First, Jesus said that there is a reward even for a godly life, which is said to be rewarding. It is said three times in the text, “They have already received their reward” (6:2, 6:5, 6:6). The hypocrites have already taken their “self-reward”. Second, there are believers who receive a reward from God who sees in secret. These are people who have lived a godly life in secret. Lewis said in 'The weight of Glory', "Money is not the reward of love. If we marry a woman for money, we accuse him of only money. But marriage is a real reward for those who truly love. Love "They want marriage, not money. The real prize is not just being satisfied with what the prize is, but living your life towards a beautiful purpose."
He repeatedly concluded that “the Father who sees in secret will reward him” (6:4, 6:6, 6:18). The reward from Heavenly Father only gives joy, satisfaction, and strength to the godly life itself. Rather, it means that in the future heaven will prepare many rewards and give them a crown. Therefore, if possible, a true believer is a believer who does not intentionally do his own almsgiving, prayer, or fasting, but secretly acts according to God's will. Ⅲ. The end of the two believers
But those who lived a godly life in secret said, "When the Son of Man comes in his glory with all the angels... he will say to those on his right hand, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, come and bring the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Inherit your inheritance." "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me" (Matthew 25:34-40). Our religious life must get rid of eating out. Extroverts cannot enter heaven. Hearing the publican’s prayer, who did not dare to raise his face, beat his breast, and cried out, “I am a sinner,” and the Lord receives the worship of a sinful woman who comes to Jesus’ feet, pours perfume on her, wipes her hair with her hair, and wets her feet with tears. . Let us give glory to God who sees in secret. Amen.
□ Sermon Interpretation ---------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Today's modern day is a church without God, worship without God, preaching without God. , church service without God, prayer without God, godly life without God, and revival movement without God.
If we leave out the most important God in all of our religious life, no matter how interesting, revival, and prosperous it may seem, it is hypocrisy. To the Pharisees who said they kept the law diligently all their lives and believed in God, John the Baptist said, “These stones will make them descendants of Abraham” (Matthew 3:9). It is an out-of-the-box religion that seeks to gain the glory of people and a life of faith. Luther said that morality without God is "a splendid vice". We all thought about getting rid of the mask of eating out.
