Title Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 04:1-4)
The process of the collapse of the Saul dynasty, which begins with the death of Saul and his son Jonathan, is described in 2 Samuel 4, where even Ishbosheth, the remaining power, was killed by his subordinates Rechab and Baana along with the absurd death of Abner, the commander of the army. The dynasty was completely destroyed. And in 2 Samuel 5, with the birth of the Davidic dynasty, the curtain of the Davidic era is rising in earnest. This has been foreseen, and David's position is that of God's representative in the theocratic state. And through the offspring of the woman (Genesis 3:5), the kingdom of God will be completed, and the promises made to Shem and his descendants (Genesis 9:26-27), and Abraham and his descendants (Genesis 12: 2-3, 13:16, 15:5) came to be fulfilled in David's time. The text tells us that the last remnant of the Saul dynasty, the Ishbosheth regime, was shaken up and that there was no suitable successor. Let's take a closer look at the situation of the Saul dynasty at this time.
2. The remaining two generals of Ishbosheth were opportunists After Abner's death, Ishbosheth had two remaining generals, Rechab and Baana. But they were opportunists. Therefore, these are the ones who will eventually abandon the Saul dynasty and return to David. However, they do not go back to David to understand God's providence and obey God's will, but only because they are opportunistic. These were generals who did harm, not generals that were beneficial to Saul's dynasty. In other words, he is a completely different general from Abner. In the end, these people betrayed the Saul dynasty and committed the murder of Ishbosheth, so they could take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy wealth and glory on their own.
