Jeremiah 3:11-18.
11 And the LORD said to me, A rebellious Israel is better than a rebellious Judah
12 You shall go and proclaim these words toward the north, saying, saith the LORD,
Return, backsliding Israel, for I will not turn my wrathful face against you.
I am merciful, and I do not harbor wrath without bounds, says the Lord, 13 Confess your sins only, for you have betrayed the Lord your God, saith the Lord.
Run your way to the Gentiles and go under every green tree
for they have not listened to my voice, saith the LORD, 14 saith the LORD, Return, you rebellious children, for I am your husband.
I will choose you one from the city and two from the tribe.
I will bring you to Zion, 15 and I will give you shepherds after my own heart.
They will nourish you with knowledge and understanding, says the LORD, when you multiply and multiply in the land, says the LORD.
Men will never again speak of the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
I will not think, I will not remember, I will not seek
shall not be made again; 17 at that time Jerusalem shall be called to them the throne of the LORD;
All the people will be gathered there, for the name of
gathered in Jerusalem, and will never again, according to the hardness of their wicked hearts,
They will not do it, 18 then the house of Judah will go out from the north with the house of Israel.
Together they will come to the land I gave to your fathers as an inheritance.
* God said that rebellious Israel was better than rebellious Judah.
He said he was more righteous (11)
He urges them to repent and return before him.
In addition, God gave them wisdom and understanding
He will raise up a shepherd, through the Assyrian and Babylonian captivity.
It is said that the children of Abraham, who were divided in two, will be united into one.
1. The call of the rebellious people (11-12)
2. The condition for answering the call is confession of sin (13-14)
Look at Isaiah 59:1-8! 1 The LORD's hand is not short, that it cannot save, nor his ear dull, that it cannot hear, 2 but your iniquities have separated between you and your God.
For your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear from you. 3 For your hands are dirty with blood and your fingers with iniquity,
For your lips speak lies, and your tongue provokes bitterness." 4 There is no one who accuses justice, no one who judges truthfully
They trust in vanity, they speak lies, they conceive evil and give birth to iniquity, 5 they lay eggs of vipers and weave webs, and whoever eats them will die.
When its egg is trampled on it it will burst and a viper will come out. 6 His woven fabric will not make a garment.
His deeds will not be able to cover him, and his deeds are an act of iniquity.
Violent deeds are in his hands 7 and his feet are swift to do evil, swift to shedding innocent blood;
Their thoughts are evil thoughts; desolation and ruin are in their ways; 8 they do not know the way of peace, and where they walk there is no justice.
They make their own crooked paths, and whoever treads on them will not know peace.
3. Great Unity in the Good Shepherd (15-18)
Verse 15 says, “And I will give you a shepherd after my own heart.”
The good shepherd here is Zerubbabel (Haggai 2:1-9) Ezra (Ezra 8:1-20)
It may be Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2:10), but ultimately refers to Jesus Christ.
In Jesus Christ, mankind is redeemed and becomes a global church through the work of the Holy Spirit.
The unity of God's reign will be achieved.
