Sermons for Preaching

Title Micah 2

Content Micah 2

Jehovah rebukes “the powerful” who mistreat the poor, not for common sins. Micah condemns such cruelty of the rich and warns them of the judgment to come.

Here, repeated mentions of the prophets and Jehovah, and more, appear.

1. There is a word from the prophet

“In their bed they plot evil, and plan evil” (v. 1).

He spoke to the rich of Judah. These are ①, plotting evil in bed, ② running a secretary,

③ The fields and houses of the poor were taken away (verse 2).

These victims seem to include Micah's neighbors. The kingdom prospered in the days of Uzziah of Judah, and thus the exploitation of the strong by the weak reached its climax.

The abuse of the strong affected ① people ② people in his household ③ industry (verse 2). “Woe to them” (v. 1).

2. There is the word of Jehovah

“I plan calamity upon this people, says the LORD” (verse 3).

Jehovah reveals his will for punishment.

① Yahweh’s calamity is planned ② man will not escape from it ③ pride will not prevail.

3. The word of Jehovah continues.

“At that time they will make good for you” (v. 4).

This is the word of the enemy of Israel, which shows the work of the Lord. They ① build a windmill, ② sing a sad mourning, and ③ confess that they are in ruins. This is realized when the industry leaves and the fields fall into the hands of others. So there will be no one in the congregation of the Lord to possess the land (v. 5).

4. There is a rich man's plea

“They say, ‘You shall not prophesy’” (verse 6).

This is what prophets often hear. So was Amos (Amos 7:10-13) and so was Isaiah (Isa 28:9-10). However, in the time of Manasseh these things turned into persecution (2 Kings 21:16). Micah listens to them and tries to argue. This argument is, “Will you do it? will you?” (verse 7).

In order to receive God's blessing, we must live according to God's will. And Micah points out that the actions of the rich fall short of God's justice.

The rich commit acts that violate God's justice more than they do it.

5. Jehovah Has Answers

“In recent times my people have risen like an adversary, and have removed their outer garments from the robes of those who pass by in peace from war” (verse 8).

“My people,” literally “you,” are the rich. They got up and ① the poor but the peaceful

Taking clothes as collateral, ② driving women out of their homes, ③ taking glory from young children forever. this is

It's ruining young children. The wealthy who had driven out others must be destroyed this time, and their destruction will be severely punished (verse 10).

Jehovah briefly lists their sins.

(1) The resting place of the rich is already defiled (verse 10).

Therefore, they “cannot serve God” with a pure and pure heart.

(2) They do not want a right prophet.

This is because they “walk in vain and lie” (v. 11). Because you have the attitude to do it.

6. There is a return of the captives

“Jacob, I certainly have gathered you all together” (verse 12).

It consists of 8 lines, and is the story of Israel's return under the protection and guidance of the Lord.

Here, “captive” is viewed as an actual event, not a possibility or hypothetical.

“Gather all of you together” (verse 12) is an expression of the scattered ones in mind.

They are “set into one place” (v. 12), and they are the object of God’s protection. God made them 1) like sheep in pastures 2) they become numerous 3) they hear a loud voice 4) they follow the king

⑤ You will follow the guidance of the Lord. Jehovah leads his people “in kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).
