Misunderstanding (Mark 12:18-28)
Last week we saw the crafty tactics of the Pharisees and Herudians.
Today, the Sadducees are trying to overthrow Jesus with an event called the Resurrection.
And next week comes a conversation with the scribes.
Do you believe in the resurrection?
Our church, of course, believes in the resurrection, but there are still many Christians like the Sadducees today. I do go to church. Praise and worship. We also offer donations. It's not that I don't believe in God. To believe is to believe. However, there are those who, like the Sadducees, do not have faith in the resurrection.
Even when talking about the resurrection, there are many Christians who live only thinking about things like 'children's studies, husband's business, material satisfaction, and family health, without even paying any attention to it, far from being moved.
In a way, such people can be said to be the Sadducees of the 21st century.
The Sadducees worshiped God well and tried to live according to the Word, but they were thorough realists.
Neither knew nor cared about the resurrection after death.
So, why are there Christians like the Sadducees? Why do people not have faith in the resurrection? You can find out why in verse 24.
(Verse 24) Jesus said to them, "Isn't it a misunderstanding because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
First, it is because they do not know the Bible, that is, the Word of God.
Second, they do not know the power of God.
If you deny the resurrection, Christianity is nothing.
Without the resurrection, there is no need for forgiveness of sins. Of course, there is no need for Jesus to hang on the cross.
All you have to do is live with the world and be deceived and deceived while compromising with the world.
But remember that the resurrection is certain.
Everyone who believes in Jesus or does not believe in Jesus will be resurrected.
Those who have faith in the resurrection will be forgiven by the blood of Jesus and live a life in heaven in the eternal kingdom of God.
If you do not believe in the resurrection faith and live with a purpose in this visible earth and reality, you will grind your teeth and weep bitterly on the day of the resurrection.
In verses 18-23, the Sadducees ask a question.
In this era, there was a system in which a brother-in-law and a brother-in-law died first, and the system was called the <detective intake system>.
But when they go to heaven, they ask whose wife they will become.
This time I will ask you a question.
If you become a 90-year-old curly grandmother and go to heaven, will you still be a curly grandmother in heaven?
Will a short person be short even if they go to heaven?
What do you think? What do you think the resurrection will look like?
Of course, we believe that diseases and shortcomings on this earth will be filled.
And many people say that Jesus will change at the age of 33.
But these words are not found in the Bible.
In today's text verse 25, the answer is given.
(25) When a man rises from the dead, he neither marries nor is given in marriage, but is like the angels in heaven.
Here's something you shouldn't miss. This is the part that says, “I am like angels.” We need to understand these words well. It is true that he said that when we are resurrected we will become like angels, not that we will become angels. Angels are angels, and humans are humans. Therefore, humans do not become angels.
So what does it mean to be like angels? It is specifically stated in 1 Corinthians 15:42-44.
(1 Corinthians 15:42-44) So is the resurrection of the dead; it is sown in corruption, it is raised in immortality; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in strength; it is sown in a natural body, it is raised in a spiritual body. It is raised to life, and if there is a physical body, it also has a spiritual body.
According to these words, there are four characteristics of our body that are resurrected as angels.
First, the resurrected body will never become an 'incorruptible body'.
Although in this world our bodies change with the passage of time and later die and decay, our resurrected bodies never grow old and never get sick.
Second, the resurrected body becomes a 'glorious body'.
It is a mysterious and glorious existence that cannot be compared with our present body.
Third, the resurrected body becomes a ‘strong body’.
In fact, the human body is very weak. Although our body looks solid, it is as weak as a sheet of paper after a car accident. However, when we are resurrected, our body becomes a strong body that cannot overcome any disease and cannot be broken by any accident.
Fourth, the resurrected body becomes a “spiritual body.”
Now, as a body belonging to the physical body, it is subject to the limitations of the physical body. However, when you are resurrected, you become a spiritual body under the control of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God.
The word spiritual here means belonging to the Holy Spirit. So, to put it in one word, all the lacking aspects of the present disappear and only the perfect remains.
(27) God is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living; they have greatly misunderstood.
In Exodus, when the Lord God called Moses,
He revealed his identity to Moses, saying, "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and Jacob." Of course, although they died a long time ago, they are still alive, and they are still wrestling as God who keeps his promises to them.
Folks, misunderstandings are self-deception.
It's not about being deceived by others, it's about being deceived yourself.
Misunderstanding is the original Greek word meaning “to be deceived”.
You are deceiving yourself. Misunderstanding is another word for misunderstanding.
There are many people in the world who misunderstand Jesus.
No one accuses Jesus of being bad. But the problem is that we do not believe that He is the one who will save us from our sins.
There are many people who still misunderstand that he is the 4th adult of mankind.--> The Bible is transformed into a book for human virtue and culture.
But we confess that Jesus is God and we believe that He is our personal Savior.
And I hope that you believe and rely on Jesus and I have already become one.
Only then will you become the owner of unshakable faith.
Only then will the peace and true joy that the Lord gives me be filled with you and me in any circumstance.
