Text: Proverbs 4:20-23
World Cup football has come to an end. God took pity on our nation, which was divided, dissatisfied, distrustful, and frustrated. As I cheered for my throat to burst, I loosened the knots in my heart and gave me health in mind and body.
Even more gratefully, we realized that if we go beyond the round of 16 at the World Cup, progress to the quarter-finals and quarter-finals, and do whatever we want and do our best, we can do better and succeed than those who didn't try.
Where are the problems of this age? heart.
Even if you drink the same water from a pond, if the sheep eat it, it will produce milk, but if the snake eats it, it will produce poison. The problem is the mind. It's up to you to make up your mind. A poor person is a person who has a lot of wealth but feels lacking in his heart. The rich are the ones who feel content in their hearts even though they have little wealth. Diseases of the body can be easily cured, but diseases of the mind are said to be "ineffective."
Please take good care of your mind.
Even Jesus said that if you hate in your heart, you have murdered. Before a sword kills a person, hate is because he has a sword in his heart and kills him in his heart.
In verse 23, it says, "More than anything else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."
What else is more precious than life?
Guard your heart if you want life to be preserved. The reason Judas Iscariot failed in life was because he could not keep his heart. The devil took control of that heart. In John 13:2, “The devil had already put the idea of selling Jesus into Judas Iscariot’s heart.”
And then he became a traitor.
If the heart is so important, living with it is a blessing. So David prays.
"God, give me a pure heart."
Because David lived with such a precious heart, in Acts 13:22, by quoting 1 Samuel 13:14, Paul preached, "David was a man after God's own heart." So God kept him from the hand of King Saul, exalted him as king of Israel, and made him the standard of all good kings.
Guard your heart if you want life to be preserved. If you want your soul to prosper, gird the waist of your heart (1 Peter 1:3)."
The blessings that arise when we keep our hearts are summarized in three things in today's text.
1) You will guard your lips (verse 24).
The thoughts of the heart are expressed through words (lips). Proverbs 13:3 says, "He who guards his mouth keeps his life." People bring blessings with their lips (the fruit of their mouth). (Proverbs 12:4)
Therefore, you must not sin with your mouth. Don't spit out unbelieving words
In Psalm 17:3 it says, “I am determined and will not sin with my mouth.”
So what do you do with your mouth?
We must confess Jesus (Romans 10:10), exalt Him, and proclaim Him.
In Isaiah 6:6, there is an incident that the prophet Isaiah experienced while praying about how important it is to keep one's mouth, and an angel flew with a charcoal bar in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with fire, and flew over to the prophet Isaiah's mouth, saying, "Have this touched your mouth? Your iniquity is taken away, and your sins are forgiven." Please pray if the words of your mouth are uncontrolled, unbelieving, or contain content of complaints.
2) See what your eyes see properly (verse 25).
Spiritual discernment arises (1 Corinthians 12). We don't see the sinful things, we see the righteous. What Stephen Deacon saw was “the open gate of heaven”, “heavenly throne”, and “Jesus” standing at the right hand side of the throne. Those who guard their hearts will see what they can see, and what they cannot see with their eyes they cannot see.
3) Feet go their own way (verse 26).
It flattens the course of the foot and does not lean to the left or the right. If you take one wrong step in your life, you may be dishonored, lose your fortune, and become a failure in life. Even the prophet Balaam, because he lost his heart to material things and was unable to keep it, he saw that he was being humiliated by a speechless donkey while walking on a road he should not have taken (2 Peter 2:15-16; Jude 1:11; Num 22:21).
In life, if you only say what you need to say, see only what you see, and only go the way you want to go, then your life will be pleasing to God. I pray for victory in the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!
- Amen -
