Title Moses' Last Mission/Numbers 31:1~12
Content 54. Moses' Last Mission
Numbers 31:1-12
After the various sacrificial laws and regulations to be observed in the land of Canaan are given, God commands Moses to punish the Midianites for tempting Israel into sin as the final mission of Moses.
“Moses, you must destroy Midian, the enemy of the children of Israel.” God entrusts His people with a task so that they can survive on this earth until the task is completed. Therefore, our remaining on this earth can be interpreted as evidence that we have a mission entrusted to us by God.
When God's command to war is declared, Moses immediately summons the people and prepares them to attack. “Now, we must punish the Midianites who defiled Israel. So now, you must select a thousand men from each tribe.”
In this war, along with the summoned 11,000 soldiers, Phinehas, the son of the priest, also participates. The trumpets in Phinehas' hands were a sign that God was with them in battle. This is also an act to show that war is a holy war that represents God's righteous judgment.
Finally, the battle with Midian begins. The Midianites, who were suddenly attacked, are desperately destroyed without ever using their strength.
The Midianites fall like autumn leaves by the blades of the Israeli soldiers. The towns and villages of Midian were quickly destroyed by Israel's looting and burning. All five kings of Midian were killed in this war, and Balaam, the mastermind of the Baal-peor incident, also fled, but ended his life tragic by the sword of Israel. In the end, the war ended with Israel's unilateral victory.
The defeat of Midian, the victory of Israel! This shows that there is no one who overcomes against God, and no one can block the path of those who are with God.
