Noah's Mistakes (Genesis 9:18-29)

God showed the rainbow as a sign of promise to those who were saved from the Flood and promised never to be destroyed by water again. People can live happily in a world free of anxiety and fear. Today's verse tells the story of Noah's family in a very small way. There is a lot to learn from this family history. Noah's family, who was saved, lived by farming. Today's sermon records a scene where Noah, a righteous man of his day, made a mistake. It's a scene that doesn't really fit in with Noah.

They drank wine made from grapes obtained from farming, got drunk and slept naked. It does not suit the holy and righteous Noah. However, the Bible is more interested in the reactions of his sons rather than this mistake of Noah. Ham advertises his father's flaws, and Shem and Japheth cover their lower body with clothes. Because of this event, the two are blessed, but Ham is cursed. Today's sermon contains different topics depending on whether the focus is on Noah or the sons. Let's consider both.

Noah's Mistake

The person who was saved from the Flood, he is a successful person and a victor. Even in the world of sin, he was a righteous man, a perfect man, and a man who walked with God. However, problems arose after the victory. Noah grew grapes. A good harvest has been achieved on the farm. He drank wine and got drunk, and lay naked in the tent and slept. The man who was walking with God became drunk and became a man dominated by alcohol.

1. Be careful after success.

Noah died, but he came back to life. This is the first success. He also planted the first grapes after the flood to reap the harvest. This is my second success. But he stopped drinking wine and made the mistake of getting drunk. Be careful after success. There are many who succeed and fall in faith. That's why God said (1 Corinthians 10:12), "Therefore, let him who thinks he is standing take heed lest he fall."

A person who is standing will fall. A crawling child will not fall. But little children who walk will fall. Be careful when standing. A family built with hard work and sweat, a church built through hard work, a company built without being able to sleep properly... However, carelessness often breaks these things down. When the family is happy, the church is stable, and the business is prosperous, that is, when you stand up, you need to be careful.

It takes many years to build, but not long to collapse and fail. Noah, who had been walking with God for over 600 years and was given the title of a righteous man, collapsed in an instant. Who would call a drunken Noah a godly man? There are many such people in the Bible. King Hezekiah did that. Hezekiah, who achieved a great victory in the war against Assyria, and had his life extended for 15 years through prayer even after being ill, became proud of the Babylonian king's celebration and showed the armory and treasury, and then made Israel the Babylonian captivity. When David violated Bathsheba, Israel was at its most prosperous. Be careful when you are at peace, triumphant and prosperous.

2. Anyone can make mistakes.

There are no exceptions. How many people today are as godly as Noah? So no one can say no to me. After all, there is no perfect winner. That there is no perfect human being. That's not to say we should justify our weaknesses. Knowing this, you should always be careful and work hard. We should not continue to sin and live because everyone is a sinner. Likewise, anyone can do it, but you have to make sure you don't make that mistake.

son's reaction

No one knows that Noah made a mistake. It's an obvious mistake. What are you doing in front of your sons? But God sees the reaction of the sons who see that mistake. He not only sees Noah's mistakes, but also the attitudes of his sons who see Noah's mistakes.

1. Implication Reaction

Seeing Noah's mistake, Ham spoke up about his father's mistake. And among the many reactions, he did not cover or cover up, but rather open up, expose, and criticize. So he is cursed. (Verse 25) "Then he said, Cursed is Canaan, that he may become the servant of his brother's servants." I'm just stating the truth. I looked at the shit and called it shit. But I was cursed.

Moses' sister Miriam contracted leprosy while criticizing Moses (Numbers 12:1-). Was Moses good? no. It is a command from God not to marry a foreign woman. Because I did not keep God's command, God already knew before Miriam spoke. Miriam had done what God would do, but in the end, only herself suffered a loss.

These days, the story of a female student who accuses her mother of having an affair with the police chief is sparking debate in the media for pros and cons. People say a lot of opinions that mothers are bad. Of course, her affair can't be right. However, from the biblical principle, the daughter's actions are an unforgivable sin. Ham and this daughter are making the same mistake.

2. The reaction of the two sons

The two sons react differently to the same event. He takes on clothes to cover up his father's mistakes. Not only did they hide it from others, but they also took a step backwards so that they wouldn't see them either. This is because he has a heart to love his father. Anyone who criticizes and reveals faults at church, at home, or at work is in fact not loving that person.

The results are huge. Two sons, Shem and Japheth, were blessed. However, Ham, who did not cover up his father's mistakes, was cursed and served as a slave. Neither son would have imagined that different reactions to the same event would change their fate so much.

(Matthew 7:4) ?ehold, there is a plank in your eye, why do you say to your brother, ?et me take the speck out of your eye??€?Yes. Those who know and respond to this fact are different from those who do not know and react. Tonight God wants to see your reaction. Please see the same event with a positive eye.

Dear saints, Be careful when you stand up, when you succeed, when you are stable. No one knows when it will fall. Be careful when you see the shortcomings or mistakes of others. Especially do not like to expose the shortcomings of a spiritual leader. Even if you hear it, pretend you didn't hear it. How you react will determine your future. Be the cover and cover up. You will receive God's blessing. Hallelujah!
