How God Leads
Numbers 10:1 32
It doesn't matter if you go slow or go fast when going down the road. You have to go the right way. It is better to go on the right path at the latest than to go on the wrong path quickly. God was very careful not to deviate from the path that God had directed for the people of Israel. Today, too, we must make sure that our steps do not deviate from the path God has indicated. The God who led the Israelites in the wilderness leads them in the same way today. God led the Israelites through a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire. However, in addition to that, he used several other methods. Fundamentally, God determines and provides for our path, but in our concrete lives, we have a duty to discern which path God has given us.
Guidance through the trumpet (1-10)
In addition to the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire, he used a trumpet to guide the people of Israel along the path that God had indicated. Because there must have been some blind people among the people. Because they could not see the pillar of fire and the pillar of cloud, they sounded a trumpet to convey God's instructions to them. Some may have been careless and did not see the pillar of fire and cloud. One trumpet was blown when the leaders of the people were gathered, and two trumpets were blown when all the people were gathered together. When the people were gathered in front of the tent of meeting, the trumpet was blown with a low-pitched drum, and when the people set out from the camp, they blew the trumpet with a high-pitched tone. He also blew the trumpet when going to war.
Today we too must be guided by the sound of the trumpet. This trumpet is a sermon proclaiming the Word of God. The trumpet blew for the people to hear. I must be guided on the path of my life through the Word given every week. Through his sermons, God teaches us what to do and what not to do, and comforts us when we do difficult and difficult things. And it helps you make the right choice when making a choice.
Also, the trumpet is a prayer. Because the trumpet was not only blew for the people to hear, but there were also trumpet trumpets that God blew to hear. Verses 9-10 We must ask our way through prayer. Even if it is a choice that I think is good and does not go against the words of the Bible, it is necessary to take time to ask God in prayer. Paul was going to Asia Minor, but the Holy Spirit called him to Macedonia.
Using pre-established rules (11-28)
The Israelites were led by a pillar of cloud and fire, but they supplemented it with a trumpet. And when they walked on the road, the people moved according to the order God had already set. We must be guided by the Word of God that God has already given us or according to the rules that the church has set by receiving the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit specifically ignores the rule and works, the rule can be ignored. When Peter, guided by the Holy Spirit, went to Cornelius's house, he disregarded the traditions of his forefathers. Otherwise, the rules set by the Bible and the church must be observed.
You should ask an expert (29-32)
Moses asks his brother-in-law, Hobab, to accompany him and guide him along the way. Although there are already established rules for guiding with the pillar of fire and cloud, and blowing the trumpet, the help of experts who know the geography and climate of the wilderness is needed. We should not consider it unbelief to have the help of men of worldly expertise. It should not be trusted more than the Word of God, but it can play a complementary role in following the Word of God.
