how to deal with sin
Numbers 5:1-31
The Christian doctrine is that no matter what sin you commit, you will be forgiven if you come before Jesus, confess and repent. However, there is a tendency to misunderstand this doctrine and not be afraid of sin. If you sin and repent, you can be forgiven again, so you are not afraid of sin.
In the movie Miryang, we dealt with the problem of Christians who have such a wrong idea. After the protagonist believed in Jesus, he went to the prison to forgive the criminal who killed his son. He said to the criminal, “I forgive you for your sins.” But when the criminal tells you that there is no need for forgiveness because I have already believed in Jesus and have been forgiven, the protagonist screams like crazy. Because they did not know how to deal with their sins. Deuteronomy 5 teaches how sinners should deal with their sins.
First, we must avoid sin so that we do not sin.
In verses 1-4 we are told to isolate all contagious diseases. Plagues spiritually mean sin. Sin is contagious and easily tainted by close proximity. Believers in Jesus should, if possible, stay away from circumstances that could lead to sin. We must keep our distance from those who may sin when we meet together. You work together at work, but you shouldn't go out drinking or gambling with them. It is best not to get close to people who always complain and resent each other when we meet.
We must beware of sin, just as we are careful of epidemics. If you hear a word or see an action that is not pleasing to God, you must wash it away with the word of God.
Second, if I have harmed others because of my sins, I must compensate them.
Verses 5-10 command that if we commit a sin, we must make restitution before man and God. You can't do something that can't be compensated, but if there is a way to compensate, you must compensate. If it is not possible to compensate with the same thing, it must be calculated in money and compensated. Even in today's law, if there is no way to restore it to its original state, it is compensated with money.
All our sins were paid for by Jesus on the cross. But why do we have to pay for our sins after we have sinned? I need to make amends to heal the wounds of those who have been hurt by me and lead them to Jesus. In order not to repeat the same sin, you must make up for it. If you experience pain for the sins you have committed, you will not commit the same sins. If children do not discipline themselves when they make a mistake, they will repeat the same mistake.
Third, we must not hide our sins.
Verses 11-31 emphasize that we must not hide the sin of adultery, which is the easiest sin to hide. You shouldn't do anything suspicious, and if you've done something suspicious, you should be able to prove you're not guilty.
If you hide your sins, God will surely punish you. Verses 20-22
Sin cannot be hidden. 2 Kings 5:27 Gehazi
