1. Personal information
① Obadiah means ‘worshiper of the Lord’ or ‘servant of the Lord’.
② Prophet of Southern Judah. ③ There is no mention of him in the Bible other than his name.
2. Historical background
Obadiah is a prophet who mainly worked with the background of the fall of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, around 586 B.C. In other words, he is about the destruction of Edom, who directly or indirectly helped the destruction of southern Judah in order to give comfort and hope of restoration to the people of southern Judah, who are facing the great trials and tribulations of the destruction of the nation, so that they never give up their faith in Jehovah even during their captivity. Prophecies and prophecies of restoration of the chosen people of Israel were proclaimed.

① He has a fiery character with strong skepticism, considering that he only condemned the Edomites, who not only despised God's people, but was also very proud of them, without any urging for repentance (Ob 1:1-18).
② Those who are currently being despised and suffering by Babylon, but have a firm hope for the future and courageous courage as they are convinced and prophesy that the chosen people of Israel will eventually be restored by God's love (Ob 1:19-21).
5. Redemption Historical Status
① The one who wrote the shortest epistle in the Old Testament (Ob 1:1).
② Unlike other prophets, the preacher of the most intense judgment, proclaiming only a harsh judgment without a call for repentance (Ob 1:1-18)
6. Evaluation and Lessons Learned
① Naturally fortified terrain, many goods and great wisdom… , how good are these? However, toward Edom, a nation that has fallen asleep and has fallen asleep because of these things, Obadiah firmly declares God's judgment. In this way, in the face of God's wrath and judgment, anything strong is bound to fall. If so, aren't we also sleeping proudly with our various strengths and talents today?
② Obadiah proclaims a message of hope that Judah will be restored by God's faithfulness toward His people, although at present Judah is being despised and ridiculed by the Babylonians. This could give the greatest hope to the people of Judah who were in despair at the time. In this way, the saints should be all the blessed ones who deliver the good news, looking after those who are discouraged and suffering, and always delivering the message of hope for the coming of the kingdom of God and the final victory of the saints (Isaiah 40:9; Romans 10:15 ).
