Chapter 2
1. Paul's concern (2:1-5)
Verse 1 I want you to know how I work for you and for those who are in Laodicea and for all who have not seen the face of my flesh***
The Apostle Paul not only prayed hard for the church he pioneered and built himself, but also paid attention to the church he did not build himself and prayed fervently.
He nurtured many disciples while evangelizing, and the disciples went out and built many churches. Among them, the Iscolossian Church was founded by Epaphra, Paul's disciple, and the Apostle Paul never visited the Icolossae Church, and he Couldn't even meet face to face.
However, Paul prayed with strength and effort every day for the Colossians who did not know his face. As such, prayer is an indispensable part of our religious life.
But it is not so easy to pray.
This is because the devil hinders us when we try to pray. Nevertheless, if we pray without fail, the power of the devil will fall and the camp of the devil will be broken.
Therefore, the Apostle Paul labored in sweaty prayers for the Colossians every day. And the Apostle Paul wanted the Colossians to know how he was using his strength.
Verse 2, that they might be comforted in their hearts and united in love into all the riches of sensible understanding, that they might come to the knowledge of Christ, the mystery of God.***
First, because they wanted comfort in their hearts.
People face a lot of suffering and adversity while living in this world.
However, when great comfort from the Holy Spirit comes to a person's heart, he can overcome even the difficult and painful physical environment and conditions.
The comfort of the Holy Spirit is beyond our imagination.
It happened when Bulgwang-dong was opened. A mother-in-law was living as a widow in Cheongsang, with only one daughter, and overcoming all kinds of difficult factions. Mother-in-law did all kinds of work and even gave her a higher education. And then I let her go home, and I met her son-in-law, a high school teacher. However, her daughter had a weak heart, gave birth to a baby, and died of heart disease.
So, is this mother's heart aching?
We were at home, worried about how we would comfort our mother and sister, but she said, “My daughter has gone to heaven.
So, people were worried that the grandmother might have lost her heart. However, even though the only daughter she had been raising her whole life had died, thanks to the comfort of the Holy Spirit, she was able to sing songs and dance over her body.
Second, we wanted to be united in love and reach all the riches of amicable understanding. When God's love comes among us, we can understand each other and become one. If you believe in Jesus, receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, and God's love is poured out, divorced families will be reunited.
The Apostle Paul prayed that all wealth would be filled in them through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Third, we prayed for the understanding of Christ, the mystery of God.
Christ is the mystery of God. We cannot know this mystery except through the Holy Spirit. However, when the Holy Spirit comes and opens the door of our hearts, the mystery of God, Jesus Christ, died for me, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, prepared a place, and then comes back again. You can realize in your heart the beautiful news that He is coming, and you can believe it.
Verse 3: In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge***
Here, “in him” means Jesus Christ, and in him all the treasures are hidden.
The wisdom and knowledge of today's world can be learned in school
Learning from kindergarten to graduate school is world knowledge
But the knowledge and wisdom suitable for the kingdom of heaven are obtained through the Holy Spirit.
For this reason, no matter how much knowledge and wisdom the world has, unless the Holy Spirit gives you wisdom, even if you read the Bible, you cannot understand it.
But when the Holy Spirit comes, he will give you wisdom, and the more you read the Bible, the sweeter it is than a honeycomb, and the knowledge and wisdom of the kingdom of heaven will come to you.
Therefore, Paul prayed earnestly with the heart that the Colossians would understand the wisdom and knowledge of the kingdom of heaven.
Verse 4: I say these things so that no one may deceive you with clever words***
What I have said so far is so that no one will be deceived by the false teachers' plausible theories or reasoning.
This is because heresy permeating the Colossae Church disturbs the hearts of its members.
It is the same base as this one today.
In the last days, the devil is trying to overthrow even the chosen ones with various clever words.
Therefore, we Christians should live a strong life of faith with faith rooted in the Word so as not to be deceived by false teachers.
Verse 5: For though I am absent in the flesh, but I am with you in spirit, I am glad to see your scale and the firmness of your faith in Christ***
This verse continues in verse 4, saying that although the body is limited in space because it is far from the Colossian church in Rome, the heart is always spiritually united with the members of the Colossian church.
And he was very pleased with the orderly life of the Colossae Church and his faithful and firm faith in Jesus Christ.
The church should serve with the power it has received from God, centering on Jesus Christ, the head, and exhibit a sense of scale that observes law and order.
And by placing the root of our faith in Jesus Christ alone, we must always maintain purity and peace, serving as the light and salt of this world.
