It is said that everyone becomes good when they stand in the face of death. That is why I regret three things at the end of my life. I was able to do better things and give more, but even after raking in, I ended up not being able to spend or eat and live wrong. Second, I couldn’t stand it. I wish I had been patient. could have lived a little happier and a little more fun, but why did she live a hard life, crying and crying? I am sorry for these three things.
As Paul recalls his past days in a Roman prison, he feels boundless gratitude for the devoted service of the Philippian church members and praises them. In verse 18, Paul praised the dedication of the Philippian church, saying, “This was an acceptable fragrant offering, pleasing to God.” This is an Old Testament expression. The word fragrant offering is a very sensual expression, and it is also a theological description. When the Israelites put meat on an altar burned with wood to offer sacrifices to God, and then pour wine over the meat, it is said that God will indulge the fragrant smell. It means that God is pleased with you.
Your service should also be a fragrant offering to God, so let's think about what kind of service would be a fragrant offering.
1. It is a service that is not capricious
What I'm saying is not that you have to hold that position in just one department. You can be a teacher and then become a choir, or you can become a teacher while playing a choir. The most important thing is to devote yourself consistently throughout your life.
The great men of faith appearing in the Bible are people who have consistently devoted themselves to each other. Even at the age of 85, Caleb shows his work with a passion that never gets tired. Moses was 120 years old, Joshua was 110 years old, David was 80 years old, and Daniel was 93 years old. In the name of the Lord, I pray in the name of the Lord that you believe that God will accept you as a fragrant sacrifice when you become fervent volunteers who consistently serve and work consistently throughout your short life.
2. It is sacrificial service
The Philippian church was not able to consistently support Paul's missionary work because it had a lot of money. As we can see ourselves, we don't donate because we have money, and we don't serve when we have a lot of time.
Sacrifice means to disappear. It is true love that I have to sacrifice myself to disappear. I bless you in the name of the Lord that you believe that this is a service and sacrifice that God is pleased with.
3. Anonymous service
The Philippi Church has been serving and serving silently for the past decade. I did not talk about missionary work or almsgiving. I have never advertised anywhere. I just silently, quietly, silently, and quietly did missionary work and gave relief. Looking back at verse 15 in the text, the Philippian church was a great church with an absolute view of faith. Dear brothers and sisters, devotion and service are the relationship between God and me. The grace I received from God is so great and so great that it is only a small devotion of mine. If we gave thanks to God, that should be the end of it. I will not ask how it is written when it is out of my hands. It's not that I'm dedicated to what I have. I just gave back what God gave me. This was David's philosophy of dedication. 1 Chronicles 29:14 "All things come from you, and what you have received from your hand, you have only given." I hope you give thanks and glory to God for giving us your material, health, time, and devotion.
Dear brothers and sisters, we must forget what I gave to whom. You have to forget it to become a truly free person. It is as Jesus said. The left hand must not know what the right hand is doing. Heavenly Father repays secret alms in secret. You don't have to go to an orphanage or a nursing home to help or serve something and then take a picture. You must deliberately forget how much you have donated. You must forget how hard you worked. God gives more abundantly when I don't calculate.
In Matthew 25, the people praised by Jesus and blessed in heaven are those who have no memory of their good deeds or achievements. If I do not take care of it, God will take care of it. So please forget everything. May you be free from the past.
Numbers 6:24-26 It is similar to the priestly prayer that Moses offered for the nation of Israel, and it is similar to the high priestly prayer that Jesus prayed for the disciples who devoted their youth in John 16.
Dear saints, I believe that God of love will abundantly and abundantly satisfy all our needs by becoming fragrant volunteer worshipers. I pray that you will become a fragrant volunteer, believing that you will not only fill a part of my needs, but will provide all of my needs.
