main text:'… Then Joshua got up and went up with the soldiers to Ai, and drew 30,000 warriors and sent them out at night… ' (Joshua 8:3-9)
We believe that in order to win a war, you must be stronger than the enemy and have a good weapon. But from God's point of view, war is different. What matters is what attitude we have toward God.
The attack on the city of Ai, which has experienced failure once, is bound to be a very difficult and difficult attack for the Israelites. However, God has established a thorough strategy so that we can win when we obey as we are.
The first prescription for victory that today's text tells us is to prepare ourselves. It means that all of you should prepare yourself and be vigilant. To prepare is to say that it is God who actually fights the war and fights the enemy, but God's people must do their best to prepare themselves. God is our warrior. He is the one who gives us the banner of victory. He wants to be a strategist and lead us to victory. But we must be prepared to carry out God's strategy.
The second recipe for victory is to occupy. God could have just beat Ai and gave it to the Israelites. But God never does that. Even in a small process, God gives the land to the people of Israel when they obey God. God wants to see the drops of our sweat. He wants to see the sweat of faith, the sweat of prayer, and the sweat of obedience and loyalty. Another recipe for victory is a good finish.
Prayer: Awaken me, who thinks it is a war I have to fight and insists on my own way. Let us go to war with God's heart and enjoy victory. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
