Introduction

An idol is nothing more or less than a tree or a stone that has no life, no strength, and nothing to do with it. Therefore, to serve it would be to become a lifeless being, dependent on vain things, such as idols, that have no effect.

Who is an idol worshiper?

1. A person who serves the work of human hands (verse 4).

“The idols of the nations are of gold and silver, and are made with human hands.”

Although God exists (Exodus 3:14), idols are of no value in that they are made by human hands and are not something to be served. Therefore, to serve such a made image is to be like that image. A person who asks a bird about the future has been reduced to a life that is inferior to that of a bird. In the same vein, those who worship idols are like idols, meaning they have been reduced to stones or trees without life or strength.

2. The one who serves the scarecrow. (Verses 5-7)

“They have a mouth, but they cannot speak; they have eyes, but cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear; they have a nose, but cannot smell; they have hands, but cannot touch; they have feet, but cannot walk; they have a throat, but make no sound.”

Idols are lifeless beings that have no activity, but what about those who worship them? His hard work is nothing. The scarecrow is a human handicraft made to chase birds, and its function is to do nothing but deceive. That is, the bird is not intelligently deceived by the scarecrow, but is deceived in the form of a human being. Humans are not deceived by the thoughts or intelligence of idols, but are deceived by themselves, like the subjects of faith. So, those who serve idols are inferior to the Scarecrow.

3. You will face the same fate as idols (verse 8).

“Everyone who makes an idol or who trusts in an idol becomes like an idol.”

Idols are, in the end, burned down because they are false, worthless works made by man, such as wood, stones, and other things that have no life, no personality, no sense. In the same way, those who make and serve idols that are nothing will eventually be burned in the fire of hell like the fate of idols. Therefore, you must not make an idol or serve it. The reason is that in the end they will perish like idols.

conclusion

We must not make or serve idols, but serve Almighty God.

The psalmist said, “Our God is in heaven, and he can do whatever he pleases” (verse 3). “Trust in the Lord, Israel. The Lord is your help and your shield.” (verse 9) )" did. That's right. Blessed are those who trust in God.
