Title: Who is God?

Text: (Psalm 115:1~8)

Hymns: 321. to Jesus who redeemed me

Date: June 24, 2011 (Fri) 5 am

Venue: Jeonju Yebut Church Small Worship Room

To believe in God well, you must know who God is. In order to know who God is, we must meditate deeply on the words of the Bible. In today's text, the poet introduces who God is. I hope that it will be a time to take a closer look and draw closer to God.

1. God of glory (verse 1)

The poet confesses that we must first give glory to God. God's people must do their best to glorify God. People like to see their names exposed. But no man should take the glory of God. No human, no nation, can take the glory of God, and no one can hinder the work of God. The reason God deserves to be glorified is based on His kindness and truthfulness. God does not change forever, and what He has said once and promised, He will surely fulfill. He is also the one who gives eternal and unconditional love to the people. Therefore, God's people should trust, rejoice, and sing in His mercy and truth.

2. The great God (verses 2-4)

When the nations around Israel saw Israel's suffering, they mocked, saying, "Where is your God?" The God of Israel is only in heaven. He is unconstrained by anything and rules the entire universe. God always does what He wants and decrees, and nothing can stop the work of God, the Most High. God trains and guides His children in great will. Sometimes we experience hardships, trials, and defeats in our lives, but that is only one step toward accomplishing God's great will. We should look forward to the great God and expect and praise him for what he will do.

3. God who judges idols (verses 4-8)

The poet compares the Most High God with idols. They say that idols are not gods, they are just objects made by human hands. Idols have mouths but cannot speak; they have ears but do not hear; they have noses but cannot smell. A world that makes such idols and relies on them and ridicules God's people will be as worthless as idols. You will soon be dead. If a human being created by God makes an idol of no value and serves it as a god, it destroys the dignity of human beings created in God's image. So in the end you will perish along with your idols. We must get rid of all idols in our lives. It is necessary to completely remove all the outward idols and the invisible inner idols.

God is incomparable to anything in the world. God is the perfect leader in life, and His Word is the perfect guide to life. All creatures who have realized who God is, must praise Him with all their heart and give thanks and glory to Him.
