Title: The Benefits of Suffering
Text: Psalm 119:67, 71
There are many voices, but there are many sounds of God's word, and there are many songs, but I know that there are no words or songs that are more precious than hymns that praise God. Please believe that our Lord is with us in this place where there are words and hymns today. Also, to all of you who watch and listen to the Word, I hope that the Lord will be there to protect you and take care of you. Even after making a promise, a person may break the promise due to severe forgetfulness and lack of memory. However, please believe that our Lord will never forget what he has promised and will fulfill it. The greatest of those promises is the promise that I will always be with you until the end of the world.
So, in fact, in some respects, it seems that believers in Jesus have difficulties, dangers, and fears. Even if an accident occurs, the people of the world deal with it as an accident and it ends, but for God's people, I hope that God will help you in a better way after an accident.
That's why Paul said, 'All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose' (Romans 8:28). There are a lot of things we don't want to happen in our lives. It's called hardship. So, while people seek happiness, they suffer hardships. However, when we look through the Bible, in fact, in some ways, there is a benefit that we give through suffering.
Then, I pray in the name of the Lord that we can digest this suffering well together while pondering the Word of what the benefits of suffering are, and that we can receive the grace of the Lord that creates better things in suffering. Rather, the psalmist says in the text that he has benefited greatly from this suffering.
First, it helps them to turn from their wrong conduct.
“Before I was afflicted, I went astray, but now I keep Your word” (verse 67). Why does God cause human suffering? To turn us from our wrong ways. David clearly said of his experience, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes" (verse 71).
This suffering sometimes teaches us a lot. to learn life. It also teaches you how to live life. In addition, the individuality of a person and the wisdom of all aspects of life can be acquired through suffering. When young children grow up without any difficulties, they later lose their independence. And you lose your own choices. So, whatever we do, we must learn to stand up on our own and learn to act on our own. Please believe that these correct choices and correct actions will come from wisdom through refinement, and through that wisdom, all things will come true.
After rain, the soil is compacted, and after a volcano erupts, very clear spring water gushes out. The hot spring is beneficial to the body, hence the name of the hot spring that is said to be a cure for all kinds of diseases. It is also said that there are no snakes in the area where the volcano erupted. New Zealand is a country made up of volcanic eruptions. The same goes for Hawaii.
Anyway, you can see good results after these terrible trials and refinements. Ladies and gentlemen, many people in this world are envious and search for success. But in reality, looking at these people, you can't tell how great and many trials and tribulations they faced. Milton who wrote Paradise Lost was blind, the great musician Beethoven was deaf, Alexander who conquered the world was a hunchback, Admiral Nelson who swept the seas and Napoleon who swept Europe were handicapped, and even Shakespeare, the world's greatest writer, was handicapped. . You can see that these people won because they did not get frustrated even in the midst of tears of failure until they did great things.
Everyone, Baber, who hit the most home runs in the world, hit 714 home runs and became the world home run king. But behind the scenes, he was struck out 1,330 times and was criticized by people. No one succeeds without failure. It is said that the President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was insulted by many people before he was honored. Lincoln was ridiculed as a very unattractive, a dictator, and a very ignorant man. Just as a top spins faster the more he hits it, as he enters these and other words, his faith grows, his determination becomes stronger, and he gains courage.
If you, our beloved saints or all of you who watch, get frustrated and give up easily when doing something, it is like giving up your rights yourself. It is like blocking God's blessings on your own. God sometimes gives us suffering in order to turn us from our wrong deeds. At this time, we should rather be thankful before God and learn through refinement. God leads us from the wrong way to the good way, and from the proud way to the humble way (Psalm 119:68,69).
Second, it helps us to grow our faith properly.
“Your hand has made and established me; give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments” (Psalm 119:73). And he gives us refinement so that we can grow to a position that pleases God.
A person who has lived a life without suffering has no power. There is no attraction. A person must be attractive. The beauty of us believers in Jesus is the faith that does not despair, does not retreat, does not hesitate, does not give up, and moves forward to the end even in the face of many trials and tribulations. I believe that God will use people who have such faith to a greater extent.
We need to grow our faith right. Psalm 119 gives us many lessons for the right growth of our faith. The psalmist was built up with right faith on the word of God through refinement. So, looking at the words he confessed, in verse 72 he said, "The law of your mouth is to me more precious than a thousand thousand gold and silver." In verse 78, "I will meditate on your precepts." Your commandments are faithful." And in verse 97, he confessed, "How much do I love Your law? I meditate on it all day long." If you look at these confessions, you can see how preciously David was cultivated and built up with the word of God, and his faith grew as he held on to the word.
When was your faith strong? If you look at those who live by faith without change, yesterday, today, or tomorrow, they are all people whose faith is built on the Word. Even if they lack experience and are weak in zeal, those who have deep roots in the Word do not waver in their faith. That is why, today, regardless of what our beloved saints and all of you who watch the Word do, you must always think about whether your actions are in conflict with the Word of God. If the foundation of faith is built on the Word of God, it is a faith that can expect good results. However, if emotions and words heard in my ears my mood, personality, and upbringing are the basis of faith, such faith will be shaken by fashion, popular sentiment, environment and circumstances.
And most importantly, in order for our faith to grow properly, we must have the fullness of the Holy Spirit. If there is the foundation of the Word and the work of the fire of the Holy Spirit, please believe that that faith will never be shaken and that it will be a faith that brings glory to the Lord. We must not let the inspiration of the Holy Spirit depart from us every day. If you are possessed by the moving influence of the Holy Spirit, your faith will grow soundly and beautifully, and I believe that God will bless and glorify you.
The 21C has no individual, no family, no church, or anything else. Please believe that people who are possessed by the Holy Spirit, families that are possessed by the Holy Spirit, churches with the Holy Spirit, and nations that work with the Holy Spirit throughout their lives will surely win.
Third, it makes them cry out to God.
“Great peace are with those who love your law, and no obstacle will be found” (Psalm 119:165). Do you know the difference between having obstacles and not having them? When there are obstacles and hardships, we pray. “Let my cry come before you, O LORD, and give me understanding according to your word” (Psalm 119:169). But when there are no obstacles, we do not pray. When there is an obstacle, say, 'Deliver me from trouble. Give me victory over the enemy. Lord, be my shield and protect me.' You will pray like this. In other words, suffering makes us a caller to God.
Gentlemen, just as we breathe every day, believe that faith grows through our daily cry. We must always have a cry of prayer. Prayers must not be interrupted in the homes of those who believe in Jesus. Believers in Jesus must come out of their mouths like a hum. Whether alone or in public, on the road or at work, work while singing.
We must have a cry in our daily life. I hope to meet the Lord in cry. I pray that the problem will be solved by the Lord's hand in the cry. There can be no sorrow in those who cry out. If the believer is obsessed with anxiety, it is an ointment not to pray. A moving mouth cannot be webbed. We believe that if we pray earnestly, there is a work of moving the throne of God in that prayer. Our God gives us trials and trials to make us cry. Because God loves our spirit more than we love our flesh, He gives us suffering so that we may be spiritually perfected and spiritually erected and grown.
Dear saints,
Suffering has the benefit of turning away from wrong deeds, growing up in the right faith, and making us cry out. I pray in the name of Jesus that you will become victorious by looking to God at work in the midst of suffering and giving thanks in all things, having the faith of the determination that I will live only for my Lord even when tribulation and persecution come.
