Introduction
God's providence is creation and preservation. Whatever God has made, he protects (Isaiah 43:1-3).
So how will the saints be protected?
1. He keeps us from being shaken (verses 1-2).
“He who trusts in the Lord is like Mount Zion, and he stands forever, unmoved. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people now and forever.”
This means that there is no change in salvation. As a mountain does not move, so salvation does not move. There may be some corruption, but there is no permanent corruption. This is because there is God's protection.
2. He prevents us from sinning (verse 3).
“In order that the righteous should not touch the unrighteous, the wicked must not exercise their authority in the land to which the righteous have been part of it.”
This means that a regenerated person can never commit the sin of going to hell. In other words, you can commit a sin that deserves punishment, but you cannot commit a sin that will go to hell. The reason is that God does not allow it.
The Apostle John said, "If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, let him ask, and he will give him life for the transgressors that do not lead to death... Yes, we know that everyone who is born of God does not sin. He who is born of God keeps him, and the evil one cannot touch him" (1 John 5:16-18).
3. All things work together for good. (Verse 4)
“Lord, have mercy on the good and the upright in heart.”
God is always on the side of the saints to benefit them. So, even under adverse conditions, believers have things to be thankful for. It is said that these things work together for good (Romans 8:28).
The psalmist said, "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever" (Psalm 23:6). When Joseph was sold to Egypt, his brothers tried to harm him. But Joseph said to his brothers, "Joseph said to them, "Do not be afraid, will I be in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God turned it for good, so that the lives of all people might be saved, as it is today. Fear not, I will feed you and your children, and comforted them with earnest words” (Genesis 50:19-21).
conclusion
God will be with the saints to the end of the world and protect them (Matthew 28:20). That is why no one can condemn the saints and cannot separate them from the love of Christ (Romans 8:25-33). This is because God protects you.
