Introduction
All the saints who became children of God through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, are brothers and sisters. It is said that it is very good and beautiful for them to gather together with one heart and one will.
What does it mean for us to live together?
1. It refers to becoming one through faith (verse 1).
“How beautiful and delightful! Seeing brothers and sisters hanging out and living together!”
Jesus Christ said, "As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and his brothers stood outside to speak to him, and a man said to him, "Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside to talk to you." He answered and said to the man, "Who is my mother and who are my brothers?" And he stretched out his hand and said to the disciples, "Look at my mother and my brothers, whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." (Matthew 12:46-50). The Apostle Paul said that all are one in Christ (Ephesians 4:3-6).
2. It refers to becoming one through love (verse 2).
“It is like a precious oil poured out on his head, running down his beard, Aaron’s beard, down to the collar of his robe.”
Brotherly love is poured out by God and spread. Just as oil flows down when you pour oil on your head, when the Lord pours out love, the fragrance of love spreads far and wide. Brotherly unity is impossible without love. Only when there is love. Without love, we can never become one, and without becoming one, we cannot be together. Because love requires understanding, yielding, and sacrificing, even many people can live together as one. Therefore, in order to be united, we must first become one through love.
3. It refers to becoming one through hope (verse 3).
“It is like the dew of Hermon falling on Mount Zion. The Lord promised a blessing there, and that blessing is eternal life.”
