Psalm 103:1-22 Praise the Lord Topic: 30. Praise. 2010. 8. 15.

Introduction

: In spite of a sinful and vain life, we testify with praise of the thrill of gaining meaning and hope in God's grace and mercy.

1. Joyful praise. (1~2)

2. The abundance and eternity of God's grace. (3-18)

3. Cosmic Song and Blessing. (19-22)

1. Joyful praise. (1~2)

The poet begins praising as a request to himself, not as an exhortation or command to others.

1) Celebrate the holiness of God. (One)

“Congratulations” This is because there is a request for praise that overflows uncontrollably from within the poet.

“Soul” refers to the poet’s whole personality.

“Things in me” refers to “soul,” which means to praise with all your heart.

The theme of God's praise is “Holy Name”. Because of this holiness, it is necessary to acknowledge (proclaim) that human beings are incapable of approaching God.

2). Celebrate God's blessings (2)

It is God’s “benefit” that human beings can come before the holy God.

“Benefit” refers to what God has bestowed with mercy and kindness, that is, the abundant love that He gives freely to the unworthy.

Because of the fact that the perfect and holy God shows infinite mercy and compassion, the poet is moved and proclaims praise with the satisfaction of his soul.

2. The abundance and eternity of God's grace. (3-18)

The poet specifically remembers the grace of giving grace through kindness and compassion in his life.

One). God's abundant grace experienced by individuals. (3~5)

It is achieved for those who are conscious of and respond to God every moment of life.

① Experience God's salvation in ruin. (3)

* “All your iniquities” Suffering made the poet aware of the depths of human iniquity.

* Along with the sin of the soul, he had a practical and concrete experience of physical illness.

② Start a new life. (4-5)

* Make it clear that recovery from ruin began with redemption (redemption). (4)

* “With good things” means being satisfied with the best things God has given you.

* “Like an eagle,” he will give you the strength to accomplish all these things with power.

2). God's abundant grace that guides human history. (6-14)

Through personal experience, you will be able to understand God, understand God's way of governing, and view history correctly.

① The poet understands the essence of history. (6)

* Only on the fact that history is progressing in God's justice can man understand the past, endure the present, and entrust the future.

* “Judgment for all who are oppressed” The way God’s justice is manifested in history

say In other words, God's justice is revealed by giving grace to the poor.

② God's justice in the history of Israel. (7)

* God’s reign of justice was already revealed to “Moses” and demonstrated to the children of Israel

③ God's grace is great. (8-14)

* “Son of man” When God reveals His justice, He appears as God's kindness.

* God's abundant mercy does not mean that human sins and transgressions are overlooked.

* It is the fact that God's justice surpasses judgment because of His unwavering love and grace.

* Thoroughly recognize that human beings are acceptable to God only because of the greatness of God's mercy and grace.

3). That kindness is eternal. (15~18)

“The day of life you never know again.” The poet who meditated on God’s abundant grace compares it with human finiteness.

So once again we sing of the eternity of that grace. (15-16)

It has meaning in “the kindness of the Lord.” In other words, we can hope for eternity only when God's amazing mercy comes to humans who are bound to die in vain.

“To those who fear Him~” The only and true way for God to make humans live in fear of Him

that you have shown that (17-18)

Because of God's kindness, the "covenant" and "law" are double emphasis and include all of God's commandments and teachings. Therefore, the true purpose of life is to live in obedience in a righteous relationship with God. (18)

3. Cosmic Song and Blessing. (19-22)

The poet who realized the holiness of God and the meaning of life praises God's reign. (19)

The rise and fall of the nation, the salvation and destruction of an individual, and the existence and meaning of all creation are due to God's providence, and nothing can stand alone or have meaning.

The poet demands that even “angels” participate in the praise of God.

Since the entire universe is God's creation and created being, it exists only for the glory of God.

“Because of the creation of the LORD, bless the LORD, bless the LORD, my soul” (22).

Heaven, earth, and the world alone are not enough to praise God's glory.

* All beings everywhere in God's eternal kingdom must unite to give glory to God (Romans 1:20).
