Introduction
What the saints seek is the kingdom of the Lord and His righteousness. The Lord said, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry for your life what you will eat or drink or what you will wear for your body, is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?" (Matt. 6:25) did. This is not to say not to ask, but not to ask first (Matthew 6:33).
So, what should we seek first?
1. We must seek the name of God (verse 1).
I was told to ask for the name of God, because when God becomes my everything, there is nothing lacking. The psalmist said, "Who do I have in heaven but you? On earth I have no one to long for but you... For those who are far from you will perish, and you have destroyed all who have turned away from you like harlots. Blessed be you, I will make the Lord my Lord my refuge, to proclaim all your deeds” (Psalm 73:25-28). Because God insists on the blessing of life and death, it is a blessing to seek God and draw close to Him. We must seek the name of God (1 Samuel 2:6-10).
2. We must seek the power of God (verse 4).
In (verse 4, the first half of the text), “they sought the Lord, and eagerly longed for his power”.
3. We must seek the face of God (verse 4).
In the second half of verse 4, it is said, “Always seek his face and worship him.”
This is because our salvation depends on how God looks at us. The psalmist prayed, “Restore us, O God of hosts, and let your face shine so that we may be saved” (Psalm 80:7) and “Restore us, O LORD God of hosts, and shine on your face” (Psalm 80:7). and we will be saved” (Psalm 80:19). Not only that. “Who do I have in heaven but you? On earth I have no one to long for but you… For those who are far from you will perish, and those who depart from you like a harlot you have destroyed” (Psalm 73:25-27). Therefore, we must pray to the Lord to draw near to Him.
conclusion
The saints must seek the name of God, the power of God, and the face of God.
