Psalm 22:22-31
Psalm 22 is the third meditation time. In Psalm 22, the poet, suffering indescribable suffering, describes his pain and death so deeply and beautifully that no human language can describe it.
Psalm 22 can be divided into three main parts, and the first part begins with ‘the mourning of the forsaken righteous man’. The second part is a description of the terrifying threat and the extreme point of suffering he faced;
The third part concludes with thanksgiving and praise in front of all the congregation after recovery from suffering.
The third part of today's meditation is to ask the righteous sufferer who has risen from hardship and death to praise the Lord, not only to his brothers and sisters, but to everyone in the world.
Now the darkness that covered the heart of the sufferer has disappeared, and he is giving thanks and praise with overflowing joy.
He is confident that his prayers have been answered and that God will help him. He first exhorts all faith communities to praise and glorify the Lord.
22. I will declare your name to my brothers, and I will praise you in the midst of the congregation. I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.
The poet prayed earnestly until verses 19-21 for salvation and for life. This prayer was a prayer of tears.
Finally, the poet received an answer to his prayer. Verse 21 says, “The Lord has answered me.”
In verse 22, the poet became convinced after receiving the answer of salvation. I am convinced that if I pray, God will surely answer me.
So, I tell my spiritual “brothers” about the greatness of the Lord. The psalmist will proclaim the name of the Lord to the 'brother' and sing hymns in front of the congregation. said.
Here, my ‘brother’ and the congregation are members of the worshiping community. That is, the same God is the saints and members of the church.
Jesus used the word brother well. Hebrews 2:(11) For both he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are of one, therefore he is not ashamed to call them brothers
Matthew 28: (10) Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid, go and tell my brothers, go to Galilee, and there you will see me."
Hebrews 3: (1) Therefore, holy brethren, together in the heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our doctrine,
2 Peter 1:10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure; for if you do these things, you will never stumble.
The enemy/poet shared the name of the Lord with the saints and shared praise. Do you share too?
The poet called the saints brothers, and Jesus also called the disciples and the saints my brothers. Do we too feel like our brothers and sisters to the Saints?
23. Praise him, you who fear the LORD; give him glory, all you descendants of Jacob; fear him, all you children of Israel.
You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revre him, all you descendants of Israel!
Verse 23 is an extension of the application of verse 22. The psalmist invites all who have experienced the Lord's reality, that is, those who fear the Lord, to join in his praise.
The meaning of “fearful” here does not mean that they fear God blindly, but rather those who fear God.
There are three exhortations to those who fear Jehovah Praise, glorify, and fear, these will be the three forms of worshiping the Lord.
All you descendants of Jacob, and the children of Israel, I mean those who believe in God like poets.
The poet said that we should give praise and glory to God because we have been saved by God.
This was the poet's greatest aspiration. It was to praise and glorify God together with the saints.
Enemy/ Is my greatest desire to sing with the saints and glorify God together?
24. He does not despise or despise the affliction of the afflicted, nor hide his face from him; he hears his cry when he cries.
For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
This verse shows the reasons why the saints should praise the Lord. First of all, it is because the Lord does not despise or hate the suffering of the afflicted.
The world despises the suffering of the poor. They turn away when they cry out. But the Lord hears the cry of the afflicted.
The second reason why the saints should praise the Lord is that he does not hide his face. Turning your face is indifferent or. It means to hate or to hate.
The Lord is not the one who turns away no matter what the poet does. He is the one who sees me unchangingly.
The reason the believer should praise the Lord is that he heard him cry when he cried out.
You can see the beginning of episode 22 and now it's completely reversed. At first, the poet thought that the Lord had neglected him. So he complained, “Why did you forsake me?” The poet now knows that God has not forsaken him.
Of course, we can see that the poet prayed for a long time until this happened.
Enemies/ Sometimes it feels like God has forsaken us. But God has never forsaken. I have left God and my feelings have moved away from God, not God has left me.
If God seems to be leaving, He doesn't come at all. Therefore, God does not leave me because He came to me.
25. My praise in the midst of the great congregation is from You, and I will pay my vows before those who fear You.
From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows.
All these things the Lord has done, I will praise you at the gathering of the congregation. I will offer the sacrifice I made my vows to in the presence of those who fear the Lord.
The poet intends to praise God in front of the saints during public worship. It is to remember and praise the grace, love, and blessings bestowed upon me.
And I will not forget the offering I promised to God. It is a confession in front of the saints.
It shows that public worship is important here. It is important to praise God and represent God through public worship.
Also, it is important to give the things promised to God through public ceremonies. Because God faithfully blessed me and protected me.
But when people are having a hard time, they just pray and cling to it, but when they receive answers and are resolved, they remember the things they promised to God before.
If you think it is not worth it, change it or make it a non-existent one. That means it shouldn't be.
26. The humble will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD will praise him; your hearts live forever.
The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him--may your hearts live forever!
After the poet worships, he shares a meal with the saints. In the Old Testament, it was important to eat together after worship.
The poet now shares the grace and blessings he has received with people through food. Especially with the humble. The humble here refers to the poor.
It is to invite the poor to share food and to share with them the existence of God and the love of God.
They say that they will seek the Lord and praise the Lord, and that they will receive God's blessing forever.
You can have a precious fellowship of saints through sharing of food/meal.
27. All the ends of the earth will return to remember the LORD, and all peoples of all nations will worship before you.
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
The poet shares his experience with the saints, then with the poor in his neighbourhood, and then with everyone else.
He said that all people at the ends of the earth would also want to return to the Lord, and all nations and peoples would turn to worship God.
It is also a prophecy of the future and an expression of one's wishes.
Matthew 20:19,20, as a sacrifice for all nations, Mark 16:15 Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Indeed, according to this prophecy, people from all nations of the ends of the earth are rapidly returning to God and worshiping God.
28. The kingdom is the LORD's, and the LORD is the ruler of all nations for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.
The poet explains why all peoples of all nations must remember the Lord and return to worship Him because Jehovah is the King of the whole world.
Because Jehovah is Ruler of all nations, we must return to serve him.
In Genesis 1 and 2, God created everything in the world and proclaimed that He is the Lord of creation.
Everything in the world, from the smallest to the largest to the universe, is proclaiming that God is Lord and confessing that God is the one who rules.
29. All the riches of the earth will eat and worship, and all who go down into the dust, even those who cannot save their souls, will bow down before him.
All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him--those who cannot keep themselves alive.
All the rich in the world will worship God. All the rich people in the world are talking about the rich, the famous, etc.
It is said that those who go down into the dust bow before him. In other words, it refers to those who descend into the dust, those who are sick, and those who are dying.
However, from the famous and the rich above to the poor, the dying and the sick below, God will be worshiped and worshiped by all.
So the bottom line is that everyone should worship and believe in God.
Not only Israelis, but Gentiles, not only the saints, but also the people of the world, and not only the rich, but also the poor, the sick, and the sick should worship God.
30. And posterity will serve him, and posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
Now, the praise of God goes beyond the local level and into time. So, descendants will serve and praise God, and generations of descendants will praise and confess God.
This is one of the blessings we really deserve. Faith must not cease in my generation, and it must continue to grow in the future to the descendants.
31. Come and proclaim his righteousness to the people to be born; they will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn--for he has done it.
God's justice will be communicated to the people who have not yet been born, and all that God has done to save God.
Even if it is said that the Lord has done this, the original meaning is that it is all the things that the Lord has done.
We must respect God's being God to our descendants and pass it on to their descendants.
It is a very good evangelism and mission for us to pass on the faith well to our children and teach the Bible to them.
