Title Psalm 33:1-5
Today's psalm, Psalm 33, contains very meaningful words about our praise to God. Verse 1 says that the hymn is "as the upright should do." Verse 2 says to sing with the silver harp and the ten-stringed lyre. This does not mean that you should use only those two instruments, but as Psalm 150 says, trumpets, lyres, lyres, trumpets, strings, trumpets, and loud cymbals are representatively expressed, that is, praise with all possible instruments. I know you have to understand. Verse 3 tells us to sing “beautifully with a joyful sound”. In other words, you should sing the most beautiful hymns with all your heart and sincerity, rather than just copying them mechanically without much thought.
Verses 4-5 show why the people of Israel should praise so much. It is because of the truthfulness, justice, and mercy of God. Look again at verses 4-5: "The word of the LORD is upright, and all that he does is true/ he loves justice and justice; the earth is full of the LORD's mercy".
In verse 6 and below, we find reasons for convincing the Israelites that God is a true, just, and merciful God. What would it be? The people of Israel testify of God's truthfulness, justice, and mercy in what He has done to them. It is none other than creation, providence, election, and salvation.
Verses 6-9 are singing to God the Creator:
“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all their hosts by the breath of his mouth.
He gathers the seas and piles them up like heaps; he puts the deep waters in treasuries.
Let all the earth fear the LORD, and all the inhabitants of the earth shall fear him.
He spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and he stood firm."
Verses 10-11 sing of God the Providence, Ruler of all things:
“The Lord hath undone the plans of the nations; He has nullified the thoughts of the nations.
The plans of the LORD stand forever, and his thoughts through generations."
Verse 12 praises God for choosing Israel to be his people:
“Blessed are the nations that have made the LORD their God, the people chosen for God’s inheritance.”
Verses 13-19 can be seen praising God, who is faithful to his choice and covenant, who watches over his people and saves them:
“The Lord looks down from heaven and sees all life.
Where he dwells, he watches over all the inhabitants of the earth.
He is the one who makes the hearts of all of them and watches over their works.
There is no king who has been saved by many armies, and a warrior who is strong, but cannot save himself
Horses are vain to save, and even though there are many armies, they cannot save them.
The LORD looks upon those who fear him, those who hope for his kindness.
He rescues their souls from death, and gives them life when they are hungry."
In this way, the people of Israel witnessed and reflected on God's work of creation, providence, election, and salvation in their lives, and experienced a loving God whom they can always rely on as a reliable help and shield. Verses 20-22 summarize their experiential convictions:
“Our souls long for the LORD, he is our help and our shield.
Our hearts rejoice in him, because we trust in his name.
Show us your kindness, O LORD, just as we hope in you."
Here we should consider the meaning of “sing him a new song” in verse 3. is. Usually, a new song is something that comes out when there is something new to be happy and grateful for. But how can we always sing a new song to praise God? Moreover, in a time like these days, when politics annoys and angers the whole people, the economy is difficult, business is sluggish, and suffers from job loss and job worries, when there is nothing exciting or exciting, how can we sing a new song every day? Can you do it? However, when the people of Israel looked back at God's creation, providence, election, and salvation history and said, "Sing a new song," it gives us great meaning. In times of anger, frustration, financial difficulties, and all kinds of worries and anxieties, we need to think of the God who made this world, who governs history, who is our Father in Jesus Christ, who forgives us and saves us. is. What a great and wonderful grace we have actually received in our lives so far, and how much God should be thankful to us when we know!
You have to realize that you have given them. In doing so, we will always reaffirm the truth, justice, and mercy of God, whom we can always trust and rely on, who will always be our help and shield, and then we will be able to sing a new song every day. there will be
"Everyone, be grateful for being able to yawn. Yawning is not for everyone," he said. Yes, it's nice to think about being able to yawn. I can't tell you how grateful I am to be able to close my eyes or blink when I want. How difficult and painful would it be if your eyes could not be closed or blinked? Tears are something to be grateful for. For those of you who do not have days to dry the tears from your eyes, I hope you can turn your thoughts and be thankful that the tears still flow well from your eyes. Do you know how painful it is to not have tears from your eyes? Looking back, we have a lot to be thankful for. How grateful we are to be able to breathe and have air to breathe. To be grateful is to be able to hear, to be grateful is to be able to see, and to be able to walk is to be grateful. Being able to stand up is something to be grateful for, to be able to sit down is to be grateful, and to be able to lie down is something to be grateful for. Then, the new song to be sung to God will not be able to be cut off every day. If we have only eyes to see the grace that God has given us, our lives will always be filled with new songs.
Dear brothers and sisters of faith, especially brothers and sisters of faith who have experienced failure and setbacks and who are living in worry and anxiety, let us turn our eyes to the God who created this world and created me. Let's turn our eyes to the God who rules the world and controls our lives. Let's look to God, who forgives my sins and saves me and who is my Father in Jesus Christ. Let's reflect on all the grace that God has bestowed upon us so far. Let's count the countless blessings we have enjoyed without realizing it. We will be compelled to praise God anew and anew. Our songs to praise God will inevitably be new every day. I hope that it will be a life for all of us who always praise God with a new song.
