David wrote us a poem about the futility of life. His son Solomon also confessed, “Life is vain, vanity, vanity, all things are vanity. Today's text tells us that in order to live wisely, we need to know three things.
first. You must know the end first (verse 4).
The end is the day you die. The day your life ends, the day you leave this world. A day will surely come when a person dies. Knowing and living your own death is wonderful wisdom. A wise man knows his own death. ‘Someday I will leave this world.’ Knowing this will change the way you live.
Second, you must know your age (verse 4).
“How much longer can I live? Please tell me how fleeting my life is.”
Our days are short. How long have you lived and how long will you live? A wise person counts the days of his or her life.
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12)
It is wisdom to count the lives we have lived so far and the days we will live in the future.
Third, to know my weakness (verses 5-6).
To know weakness is to know that human beings are futile. “Tell me how fleeting my life is,” says David.
We confess that human life itself is like a shadow, and that our days are only a span of length.
“Therefore, Lord, what do I want now? My hope is in You alone” (Psalm 39:7).
You must find happiness in the Lord. We must be satisfied with the blessings that Jesus gives us. We must be content with the grace that Jesus gives us. Even if I live, I live in Jesus; if I die, I die in Jesus; if I eat, it is Jesus; If I sleep, it is Jesus. Jesus must be my everything. So, just thinking about the Lord brings tears to my eyes, looking up at the sky, my heart is filled with heaven, and walking down the road, looking up and looking at the sky and giving thanks to God can be happy on this earth.
Life is short. Our days are not long. Obviously, you need to know the end. You need to know your weakness. So there is no need to ask how you have lived up to now. How you live in the future is important. Grace is no different. When I think of the Lord, I want to give everything. The people of the world say we live according to the wind of the world, but we must follow the wind that comes down from heaven. I hope you will be touched by this grace.
