Even among the saints, there are people who still value the things of the world, but when their faith matures through training before God, they all change. Mature saints do not look at the world, but depend only on God. This is the attitude of the saint who has reached the top of faith.
As we go through tribulation and hardship, we come to realize that God is our only hope. There is no one in this world who can help me. David recalls this experience and praises God for his mercy through the text. When you have faith wholly depend on God, you will be victorious with God's help. No matter what difficulties we face, we should not look to them and put our hope in God. Only with God's help can we solve the problem.
Who is God helping?
1. A person who helps the weak. (Verses 1-2)
Those who care for those who are materially needy, physically weak, and spiritually discouraged, receive God's help in the day of disaster.
Human life and death are only in the hands of God. No matter how difficult we are, we can be saved if God is with us. But even if we have everything in the world, it is of no use if God forsakes us. It has nothing to do with our possessions. Those who depend on worldly things change as they change, and when they fall, they have no choice but to fall as well.
2. A person who confesses his/her sins (verse 4).
Those who realize that they are sinners before God are those who have received grace. Believers should not be ignorant of their sins. You have to be conscious of being a sinner and repent of your sins.
But there is no need to be discouraged or anxious because of sin. If you confess your sins before God, God will have mercy and forgive you.
We need to come closer to Jesus, who justifies us, in a more humble attitude, grateful for the grace of the blood. The more we truly believe and give thanks for the grace of the precious blood of Jesus Christ, the stronger our faith will be.
3. Those who depend only on the Lord (verse 9).
In (verse 9 of the main text), he said, “My childhood friend whom I believe in, even my friend who ate at Hansang with me, lifted my heel to kick me.” This prophesied of the betrayal of Judas Iscariot, as Jesus said in (Matthew 26:23), “He who puts his hand into the vessel with me will betray me.”
The disciple who followed Jesus also sold his teacher for thirty pieces of silver. No one can be trusted no matter how close they are. We must depend entirely on God.
If you follow God's will, there will always be obstacles that stand in your way. However, such difficulties make God only hold on to them. Through the tribulation, we realize that there is no one to trust in this world, and we turn to God alone.
“There is only hope in this body, our Lord Jesus, / There is no one to believe in except our Lord Jesus / The Lord is my rock; on him I will stand, and on him I will stand” (Chapter 488).
I believe that when we come before God with this kind of heart, our faith will grow and we will experience God's help every day.
