Psalm 84:1~12 Longing for the Temple Topic: 15. Temple 2010. 11. 7.

Introduction

: It is a song about the earnest longing for God and the blessings of those who are close to God.

We are confessing our earnest hope for a place where God is, where God's grace and love, protection and blessing are.

It reminds us that there is nothing more valuable than life with God by listing the actual pilgrimage journey and the blessings that will ultimately be obtained.

1. Confess your earnest desire for the temple of God. (1~4)

2. Sing a blessing to the pilgrims. (5-7)

3. Confess that being with the Lord is the greatest blessing. (8-11)

4. Blessed is your dependence on the Lord. (12)

1. Confess your earnest desire for the temple of God. (1~4)

The poet confesses his earnest longing for the temple of God.

1) Longing for the tabernacle of the Lord. (One)

The poet longs deeply for the tabernacle of the Lord, that is, the throne of God's grace.

All godly people long for the tabernacle of God and rejoice in worshiping Him. This is because they experience the presence of God in the sanctuary.

2) I feel sorry for the longing for the Lord's tabernacle. (2)

The poet is said to have been weary and longing for the temple.

By using the word “my soul,” he confesses that his entire being is longing for the experience of God’s presence. Therefore, what the poet longed for was the God whom he saw there rather than the tabernacle.

3) I envy the grace of living in the Lord's tent. (3)

The poet is not weary, and envys the joy and grace of living in the tent of the Lord

“Altar” refers to the temple, and it is a metaphor that birds also found nests there.

Even common creatures such as sparrows and swallows build houses near the Almighty's altar and raise their young.

* You are expressing your envy while lamenting that you are currently unable to do so.

4) Blessed are those who dwell in the house of the Lord. (4)

Those who visit the temple are blessed, but there is great and indescribable grace to those who “dwell” there.

As the poet knows, the truly blessed are those who live in the house of God. are together

The presence of Almighty God changes adversity into prosperity, pain into joy, and death into life.

(Psalm 25:2; 28:7; 37:5-6; 62:8; 84:12; Proverbs 16:20; 29:25)

2. Sing a blessing to the pilgrims. (5-7)

1) Blessed are those who have gone on the pilgrimage (5)

The poet talked about the blessings of those who live in the house of God and his feelings of longing for it. And

Now it speaks of the blessings of those who go on a pilgrimage towards it.

In “get strength from the Lord”, “strength” is related to words such as “refuge, trust, fortress”.

“The one whose heart is the highway of Zion” literally means “the one whose heart is steep.

In this way, when the way to God is in our hearts and our hearts are in the ways of the Lord, we are on the way to go.

2) Even if the road is difficult, it is a comfort to others (6)

The poet is saying that the road of pilgrimage is difficult. But even in adversity, there is God's comfort, and in the end it is a blessed way of giving great comfort to others.

The “valley of tears” is a valley full of dryness and sorrow, and it symbolizes the hardships and hardships people will experience on their way to meet God.

People will go down the road in tears because of suffering, but in the end they will make it a place where springs burst out. Suffering turns into a festive opportunity.

3) You will reach Zion with the strength God gives you. (7)

Their pilgrimage is a path of suffering, but since it is a path with God, they “get strength and gain more” from God. So you can move forward.

3. Confess that being with the Lord is the greatest blessing. (8-11)

We pray for God's protection and grace for those who long for God and walk on that path, and confess that being with the Lord is the most valuable and blessed thing.

1) I appeal to you to give me grace. (8~9)

Those who love God do not seek other things. I only ask you to take a look.

It is because the only hope of those who love God is to dwell in the temple of God (to be together).

2) Confess that dwelling with the Lord is the greatest happiness. (10-11)

The poet, who appeals to him to look after himself, confesses that dwelling with the Lord is the greatest happiness.

The temple gatekeeper represents a less important office. That is, even in the lowest and most boring position

It is to confess that you are incomparably valuable and blessed to receive recognition, wealth, and service among the wicked.

“Hey, Shield Shira” and “Sun” symbolize the era of recovery. The “shield” protects from the fiery arrows of the evil one.

The characteristics of those who follow God are

① They are honest people.

② They are the ones who walk the right path.

③ Those who long for God and seek His will.

④ They walk in the light, obey His Word, and love and trust Him.

⑤ Their steps are flawless. But that doesn't mean perfection.

“He will not spare good things” God, who excels at all understanding, not only knows things that are truly beneficial to us, but also fills them with them.

When we obey Him, God helps us to continue on the path of righteousness according to His will.

4. Blessed is your dependence on the Lord. (12)

The poet pays attention to what is the most important factor in all worship and relationship with the Lord.

It is trusting Him.

The essence of godliness is trust and obedience to God. Obedience is possible when we trust and rely on Him.
