Psalm 88
Today's poem belongs to the category of lamentation or lamentation.
In particular, in these laments, there are the laments of the national community and the laments of individuals
Today, I can say that this poem is one that utters a thoroughly personal lament.
There is a rather difficult expression in the title, Mahallot Reannot,
The meaning of this word is that it is a painful disease.
As the title suggests, perhaps the author of this poem is probably in the midst of a serious illness.
Therefore, it is seen as a poem of prayer before God, groaning, unable to bear the pain of the disease.
That is why some regard this poem as a personal lament.
Some of the psalms consider it to be the saddest psalm of pain.
If you look at this poem today, though, how serious was this poet's suffering? And how long have you been in pain? There are a lot of things you can see to do.
Let's take a look at verse 3 first.
Verse 3....my life was close to hell
Verse 4...to be recognized with those who go down to the tomb
Verse 5 is the climax of the week that shows how much suffering he was in.
Psalm 88:5 They are cast from the dead, like those laid down in the graves slaughtered. You remember them no more; they are cut off from your hand.
What this means is that I am like a person who has disappeared from God's memory, just as I do not remember the dead after being murdered.
Also, looking at verse 15, there is a saying that I have been in trouble since I was a child and I am about to die.
This means that the poet has been in such trouble since childhood.
But, if you look closely, what this poet is suffering now is
You can see that we are not suffering only from physical pain.
They say that there is no filial piety in the old disease that we often say.
When a person gets sick for a long time, his friends leave, his brothers, and even his wife and children.
So, what would be the circumstances of this person?
Even if he is alive, he will not be a living person.
so to say
It's like I've been slaughtered and laid in the tomb.
In other words, now this poet is suffering because of physical pain.
You can see that we are experiencing social pain, mental pain, and furthermore, religious pain.
When a person is in physical pain for a long time, he is socially isolated, and when he is socially isolated, mental pain follows.
Besides, if you search for the cause of all these sufferings, religious suffering will also follow.
That is why they may grumble and complain against God, or fall into religious doubts.
If that happens, you will have no choice but to plunge into total suffering.
So perhaps today this poem is called Sighs of Sighs, or Sighs of Sighs.
Looking at it today, this poet seems to be suffering from these three or fourfold pain.
In verse 8, we see that those who know me have turned away from me,
It is said that you have made me an abomination to us....
What this means is that my acquaintances, that is, relatives and friends, left me because they hated me.
So, some scholars say that this poet may be suffering from a disease that people avoid and avoid, such as leprosy.
In the Old Testament times, what would you do if you were afflicted with leprosy?
This is a disease from God, so they send it out of the city. In other words, isolating.
There is nothing more difficult for you to endure than being quarantined by people.
That's why even if you go to jail, going to solitary confinement is such a severe punishment.
No matter how many shots you get, going to a solitary confinement is worse than dying like that.
However, since this poet is being abandoned by people now, how much heartache must it be?
Moreover, it seems that they are judging that they have been abandoned by God.
Look at verse 6.
Psalm 88:6 You have put me in the depths of the pit, in the darkness of darkness;
God has put me in a deep pit, a dark place, and a gloomy place.
And verse 7.
Psalm 88:7 Your wrath has crushed me, and all your waves have afflicted me (Selah).
Who says he's doing that now?
That's what the Lord does.
Now - If this is the case, it will be really hard to keep your faith and beliefs.
If this is enough, you will be forced to fall into a state of despair where you can give up your life.
But if this poet gave up his life because he could not bear his suffering,
Had that been the case, today's poem would have disappeared from this world.
But today, there is a reason why God has included this psalmist's psalm in the Word of God.
There is a meaning in writing it down and passing it on to future generations.
What is it?
Nevertheless, it is because he overcame frustration and despair.
With what did you overcome frustration and despair?
It means that we have overcome through faith in God.
That's right.
Faith in God does not make us give up.
It allows us to have hope in God in the midst of despair rather than giving up.
What makes it so?
That is when you have that faith that depends on God.
Anyone can despair.
Whether it be a disease, a business failure, or whatever...
Even if you have no choice but to give up everything, if you have faith in God
There is hope and there is hope.
What is God teaching us through this poem today?
It means that only those who are before God can have hope and have hope.
There are verses that teach us that.
This is already mentioned at the beginning of this poem.
This is an aspect we should pay special attention to in this poem.
Among the poet's sufferings, what was the reason for him to live in hope rather than despair? Where did that strength come from?
This is verse 1.
In verse 1 we see that he is already professing his faith.
Day and night I cry before you, O LORD God of my salvation...
He has always been before God.
He was a man who lived and prayed to God.
Why? Is that so?
Why? Did he have no choice but to stand before God and leave God?
Because he knew that there was only one God who could save him.
Because he knew that only God could take responsibility for him.
According to the Bible, those who always live in the presence of the Lord and those who hope for the salvation of the Lord will not be in any circumstance.
You will see that you are not in despair and setbacks, but live with hope and hope.
I don't know if you know someone named Lena Maria.
This person also published a famous book called Sheet Music of My Life Written by Feet.
This woman was born with a disability as a woman.
He has no arms and one leg is short.
However, he is not discouraged and does not know how bright and healthy he is.
Although she has such a disability, she is married and a famous gospel singer, traveling around the world, doing the ministry of praising God.
The reason that she was able to live a satisfactory life in such poor conditions was that she
It was because there was a clear confession of faith.
There is a famous saying she said.
My life has always been God's responsibility...
That's right.
Our lives are God's, so God is in charge.
When we confess that we are a life that God is responsible for, no matter what circumstance and where we are,
We find hope there.
Our society today is gloomy and hopeless,
Even if our church is in the midst of difficulties
Even if there is unspeakable suffering in your life,
When I always confess that God is the master of my life before God,
I believe that new hope will be shown for the reality we face.
Today too, through these words
I hope to live a life as one who always stands before God,
I bless you in the name of the Lord that you will be able to become those who pray before the God who is the owner of my life and takes charge of my life.
