Psalm 89 is a very solemn psalm. It is believed that this poem was written approximately after the fall of Judah and Jerusalem. After the fall of Jerusalem, those who survived the tribulation thought about it, and it was amazing that they had fallen. Because how powerful is God? However, the people of Israel experienced a tragic destruction even though they worshiped that God as their God.
What on earth made God's kindness and faithfulness powerless? That was the sins of the people of Judah, pride, and hypocrisy. At this time, the people of Judah thought that if they repented and held on to God's promises again, God would restore them again because He was kind and faithful. So they hold on to the covenant God gave David and pray.
What was God's promise to David?
First, it is the blessing that the enemies cannot overcome or rob David (verses 22-23).
This is the promise God gives to the anointed servant. Those who oppose him will never win unless he sins or is arrogant. Because God is with him.
Most of the servants used by God are not great or ordinary people from a human point of view. The proud people do not know the power of the Holy Spirit's anointing, but only look at his human form and try to envy or oppose him. But they end up kicking a thorn in the back with their own feet. God's call is important. Unless God calls and sets us up, we cannot bear these evil people. However, since the person whom God has established has the anointing of the Holy Spirit, if he does not sin, he can overcome all enemies.
Second, God gives the people whom God has established the ability to continue to do God's work (verses 24~25).
When we try to do things according to God's will, there are too many people who are against it. It's because the invisible evil devil crashes him from behind. The amazing thing is that when we do everything humanly, people really like us and praise us. However, if we try to do according to God's will, we have to reject people's requests, so there are many forces that hate us and oppose us. However, if the servants of the Lord always humbly ask for God's help, God's kindness and faithfulness will not leave him for the rest of their lives. So, in the beginning, you will go through a lot of tribulations and hardships, but in the end, you will be able to carry out that mission until the end.
“His hand will strike the sea, and his right hand will make the rivers subdue” (verse 25), which means to keep the seas or rivers from overflowing. There are many trials and pitfalls that try to rob us of God's blessings. However, we are not deprived of this blessing because God protects and sustains us with his great hand.
Third, God makes them excellent (verse 27).
The people of the world ridicule God's wisdom as being useless in this world. And when we do everything by faith, it is very difficult for us to adapt to this world at first because the world is territorial. But God makes them the best in the world. Because there is something superior in God's wisdom that this world cannot match. The world cannot match this creative, unique, yet piercing wisdom.
*(verses 33-34)
God's promises will faithfully never be overthrown. If we just follow the word of the Lord, he will make us excel in the world and overcome any difficulties.
