In today's psalm, the psalmist invites them to the place of worship, saying that worship is what the Israeli community in crisis should do.
The psalmist explains this for two main reasons. Two Reasons to Worship God - What?
1. Because the Lord made us (verse 6).
(Verses 4-5) He is the one who made the earth and the mountains, and he made the sea and the dry land. He goes on to say that the one who made this beautiful land and the mysterious mountains, the one who made the blue and blue expansive sea and the open land, is also our God who made us. Therefore, the more life's crises come, the more we must go and prostrate ourselves before our Creator. You must worship him. And you must obey the voice he hears.
Why did the people of Israel fail while being led by God in the wilderness? Clearly, even during the trials in the wilderness, God was with His people and guided them. Didn't you lead me by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night? But the problem is that I neglected two things. It was not worshiping properly. And it was disobedience. In fact, the purpose of worship is obedience. If you have listened to the Lord's voice in the place of worship, you are now obedient. However, Israel neglected the worship itself, and even if they did, the worship service ceased to be a ritual and there was no obedience.
What do we do in district meetings? It is sharing how to obey the voice of the Lord that we heard in the Sunday worship service. But (verse 11) tells us that Israel's heart was deceived and they disobeyed God. So, God was grieved and he had no choice but to take the rod against them. How are we? Now, then, why should we still worship true obedience?
2. Because the Lord is our rock (verses 1-2).
The word ‘rock’ in Hebrew is ‘SURI’. God is our Rock, God. He is not only the creator of our lives, but also our rock on our path. All the wanderings in our lives are due to our own sins. God made us noble and like Him, but our sins have separated ourselves from Him. And the result was wandering. But then he found us again, and the One who died for our sins and rose from the dead in our place will now be the rock in our life path. Now we can rebuild the house of our lives on this solid rock. We have found true rest in the shadow of this rock, and we have the courage to rise again.
The psalmist (Psalm 62:1) confesses: “You alone are my rock, my salvation, and my fortress; I will not be greatly shaken.” But you don't need to shake it too much. He is our rock.
