Title: Sing a new song

Text: (Psalm 96:1~13)

Hymns: 436. I now have the new life of the Lord

Date: September 19, 2010 (Sunday) 5 am

Venue: Jeonju Yebut Church Small Worship Room

The first word that appears in the text is the word ‘new song’. “Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing to the Lord, all the earth” (verse 1). The poet is singing. This poet has the premise that when we praise Jehovah God, we must sing it with a new song. So, what is the new song this poet is talking about?

Needless to say, I'm not talking about anything new. I'm not even talking about a new tune. New song means to renew the singing spirit. When the soul of the singer sings with a new attitude, it becomes a new song. Where will this new spirit, new attitude come from? The singer must have a new understanding of God. Awareness must be renewed. When faith is renewed, it becomes a new song.

What specifically is the new song?

1. This is a song to be sung while being moved by the fact that the Lord has become my salvation (verse 2).

This fact must be at the bottom of all the work of the church, all things related to God, and all things related to faith. You must have the assurance of salvation. A person of faith must have the emotion that God has saved me from death in sin and made me a people of the kingdom of God. And when you are a person of faith with that certainty, you can sing a new song.

2. A new song is a song that is sung while wishing to be sung with others (verse 7).

The grace, work, and glory of the Lord are not something that I can sing alone in a secret room and be satisfied with. It is a new song to sing this praise with a heart that cannot bear to share it with others.

3. The new song we will sing must be devotion (verses 8-9).

I get the feeling that these words are too narrow to be understood literally. Therefore, we need to remember (Isaiah 1:11-12) together.

“Says the Lord. “Why do you offer me these many sacrifices? I am now tired of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals, and I hate the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. You come to appear before me, but who has required it of you? I only step on my yard!”

The most important thing in praise is that we should praise the Lord with a new song. The new song we will sing is a song we sing in the thrill of salvation. This is a song we sing to share this emotion with our neighbors. This song should be sung with a commitment to devotion because the grace given by the Lord is so great and amazing.

Let's check if we have this heart in us at this time today. Then, let us resound with a holy praise, clear as the morning air, in a world full of turbid sounds. We believe that the grace of the Lord who fills our hearts with praise will overflow in us.
