God reigns with peace over the righteous, and with punishment for those who fall into the sin of idolatry.
Who does the Lord recognize?
1. Those who delight in the reign of the Lord (v. 1)
People are happy when they are motivated. Motivation arises when we have faith, hope, and love. All of this comes from the reign of God. But the wicked are afraid because of the wrath of God. God makes fire all around the wicked and melts the mountains like candles. Therefore, the righteous are ruled by the Lord.
2. A person who has turned away from the sin of idolatry (v. 7)
An idol is an image carved by a human out of a silent tree or stone. Idolatry refers to serving creation as God. Also, anything you love more than the Lord is an idol, and covetousness becomes idolatry. We must turn away from the sin of idolatry and love only the Lord with all our heart and all our mind.
3. One who radiates the light of the Lord (verses 11-12)
The light of the Lord is healing, joy, and life. The Lord brings joy and peace to the honest in heart. The saints are children of light. It is the light as God's illuminant, and we are the light as reflectors. It is to reveal the light of the Lord through our good living. I must become a righteous person who radiates the light received from God.
A righteous person is a person who acknowledges the Lord's rule and renounces idolatry and shines the light of God. May we all become people whom the Lord approves of.
