‘Sin no more’ (John 8:1-11)
Jesus came to save all sinners in the world. That is why he hated that we humans condemned and hated each other. One day, when Jesus saw a woman caught in adultery, he rebuked those who tried to stone her to death. And he saved her life. Meanwhile, he told her, ‘Go and sin no more,’ and encouraged her to start a new life. We are all just sinners who have been saved from living in our sins.
1. The condemning heart of men
The Jews had a law in which those caught committing adultery were stoned to death. It was a law God gave them so that they could turn away from sin and live a holy life before God. Therefore, a woman caught in adultery was to be stoned to death according to the law. The problem, however, is that those who tried to condemn others like that also felt remorse at the words of Jesus, “He who is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at him.” In this way, it is easy for us humans to only condemn others without seeing our own appearance.
2. Jesus' Forgiveness and Salvation
Jesus knew that the woman in adultery was deeply regretful when she came miserably led by men. That is why He saved her from the hands of those who tried to stone her to death. And he forgave her of her sins. Jesus went to the cross by himself to save such sinners, and he washed our sins clean with the blood that was shed on the cross and made it possible for us to receive salvation from God. Those of us who have received such great love should love the Lord even more and live according to His will.
3. Live a new life
Those who do not believe in God do not know that it is a sin even though they live in sin. And they even justify those who sin. God judges such people. Therefore, in order to be freed from the hands of Satan and the devil and not to sin, we must believe in Jesus only. After that, when we live according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we do not follow the flesh, but live a new spiritual life in Christ. So, Jesus told this woman, “Go and sin no more,” and exhorted her to start a new life.
We are only sinners who have been saved through faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, we must always think of the Lord's love, keep away from sin and strive to live a new life. And we must lead many souls who are still wandering in sin to the Lord of Love.
