Title Qualifications for Elders and Bishops
Qualifications for Elders and Bishops
(Titus 1:5-9)
1. Qualifications of an elder
Paul explains the reason for dropping Titus in Crete. Paul served the church here with Titus, but Paul left and only Titus was left there. As for the reason, Paul said that the purpose was to correct the shortcomings and to set up elders in each city. Paul is calling Titus' attention to the raising of elders in the church.
(1) He said that one must be blameless. A person who lives a life in which his deeds are perfect and without blemish
says
(2) He said that he must be the husband of one wife. At that time, society was very popular with male superiority. But to become an elder, you must be the husband of one wife and blameless in women's matters.
(3) He said that he must have children of faith who do not disobey or disobey. An elder said that he should rule his family with faith and that the family should be a religious model for the children of that family.
2. Qualifications of Director
Regarding the qualifications of the next bishop, Paul reveals several things in verse 7 and below. First, the bishop was called a steward. A steward is a person who takes charge of the housekeeping of another house and is a person who works as a servant of that house.
(1) He said that he should be a person without reproach. You must be an honest and sincere person.
(2) He said that he must be someone who does not follow his own stubbornness. Because he is not a person who manages his possessions, he must obey the will of his master and follow it.
(3) He said that he should be a person who is not in a hurry to get angry. Minutes bring strife and strife. In particular, urgent anger causes loss of ideals.
And it will lead you to the place of sin immediately. Proverbs 29:22 "An angry man stirs up strife, and a wrathful man commits many crimes." Such was the case with Cain. God rebuked the angry Cain, saying, 'Why are you so angry?'
(4) He said that he should not be a drinker. Since alcohol is drunk by those who enjoy it, this means that those who habitually drink alcohol do not qualify as overseers.
(5) It was said that the batterer was not qualified as a supervisor. Hitting people is not good for your wife, your children, or your neighbour.
(6) Next, the bishop said that he should not be a greedy greedy person. Dirty is an advantage obtained by improper means. It means profit from deceiving others, deceiving scales, engaging in a profession that is contrary to the Word of God, etc. In verse 8 Paul lists the positive aspects of the person to be overseen. He said, 'One should be a person who treats strangers, loves goodness, is sober, righteous, holy, temperate, and keeps the faithful teachings of the Word.
As to the reason why the bishop should have these qualities, he tells them, 'This is so that he may exhort them with sound teaching and rebuke those who speak against them.' Bishops are people who will rule the church in the position of exhorting others with sound teachings. If a person in such a position is not sincere in his religious life, it would be a big deal. How can you encourage others to give you religious guidance that you cannot practice? Also, the bishop in the church
It tells us that we are in a position to 'reprove those who speak offensively'.
These were those who perverted the word of God and refused to follow the teachings of the apostles.
Because there were many people, he himself has to follow the words of correct precepts, because he is in a position of responsibility to reprove them and to watch over others so that they do not fall into the trap of their delusion.
Conclusion: Elders and bishops are leaders in important positions in directing, teaching, and presiding over the church. they are not true
If you cannot serve the church because you are sincere and sincere, the church will be corrupted. Therefore, the church should raise these qualifications when electing their leaders.
