Hymn: Chapter 257 “Preach the Gospel to Everyone Who Hears”
Meditation: Is there a special covenant that only God and I have?
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
Text: “I have set my rainbow in the cloud, and this is the evidence of my covenant with the world” (Genesis 9:13).
Word: In this world we live in, everyone must live by keeping promises. Traffic laws, for example. Also, business owners must keep their promises to each other. If you borrow money from a bank, you must return it within the due date to avoid any loss. After the judgment of the flood, God gave the rainbow covenant for Noah, his family, and descendants. A covenant is a promise. Why did you show me the dazzlingly beautiful rainbow?
A rainbow is a promise of hope. Noah and his family had to see rain throughout the flood, and the water was exhausting. But now he showed me a bright and beautiful rainbow It is God's special consideration to use the rainbow to make a covenant with Noah. You can make promises through anything in the world, but the reason you showed the rainbow is to give you hope. Every time Noah saw the rainbow, he must have had hope and remembered God's promise that he would never again destroy it with a flood. God still gives us hope through the rainbow of the Bible.
The rainbow was among the clouds. Bright and beautiful wishes don't just appear in clear skies. After the cloud covered the earth, the rainbow appeared (Genesis 9:14). Clouds are not only present in the sky, but also exist in our daily lives. Sometimes clouds of adversity come to us, sometimes clouds of sorrow and disease, and sometimes clouds of parting because of the death of a loved one. Even when those clouds cover us and darken us, we must remember that there is a rainbow of hope promises.
The rainbow is an eternal covenant. The rainbow that Noah first saw must have disappeared over time. After that, countless rainbows appeared and disappeared from the ground. But the rainbow of God's grace does not disappear and is eternal. “I will make a covenant with you, and I will never again destroy every living thing by a flood, and there will be no more flood to sink the earth.” (Genesis 9:11) because of. Jesus Christ is God's rainbow to us. Through Jesus, God has given us the eternal covenant to save us, not to destroy us.
Prayer: Praise God for giving us a rainbow of hope, a rainbow of joy, and an eternal rainbow. I prayed in the name of Jesus. Amen.
