Text: John 21:1~14
The most important form of worship in the Old Testament times is for the priests to come out and read the works of God that He had done to their ancestors, and to remind them of the work of God that came upon them. It was very precious to remember God's work even in the New Testament. The purpose of writing the Bible is so that the generations that come and come continue to remember the things God has worked for.
Peter denied knowing Jesus three times before the maid. Then he heard a rooster crowing, and remembering what Jesus had said, Peter went to the garden and wept and wept and repented. So, it was the Lord's words that came to mind that made Peter turn from the wrong place to the right place.
One of the most important things in correcting our faith life is to remember the grace we have received from the Lord. When we remember that grace, we can move from the place of complaining to the place of gratitude, and from the place of unbelief to the place of faith. In our religious life, there is nothing more important than rethinking and remembering the grace we received from Jesus.
Peter and the seven disciples went back to the shores of the Sea of Galilee and cast their nets all night long. But they didn't catch a single one all night. In the morning Jesus made a charcoal fire by the seaside and said to his disciples, “Do you have any meat?” Then he told them to cast their nets on the right side of the boat, and a lot of fish were caught.
Through these memories, Peter said, ‘Yes, nothing is possible without the Lord. Without the Lord, I cannot live.' In the 21st chapter of the Gospel of John, Peter confirms once again that my stomach was empty when the Lord was not there, but when I obeyed the Lord's word, my empty stomach was changed to full.
Also, looking at the charcoal that Jesus had spread out, Peter remembered himself when he denied Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Peter followed Jesus from a distance, and Jesus entered the inner courtyard, and Peter was standing in the outer courtyard at a charcoal fire because it was cold. Then Peter makes a fatal mistake. I denied knowing Jesus three times. But who is on the charcoal fire now? Jesus is here. And around the charcoal fire, all the disciples who loved Jesus who experienced the resurrection of Jesus are surrounded. It is the place of faith where Peter's faith is strengthened more and more.
Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers, but meditates on the law of the Lord day and night.” Where should I be? Peter realized this important thing. Peter realized and remembered this important truth again in front of a charcoal fire, and made a new resolution.
Besides this, Jesus reminded Peter of several things. The night before Peter was arrested, Jesus said, “Today I will be arrested and die.” When he said this, Peter said, “Even if all the others, the eleven other disciples, have forsaken the Lord, I will never leave the Lord.” said When it comes to comparing yourself to someone else, you are comparing yourself to the people around you. “The other disciples, John, James, and even my brothers Andrew and Thomas, all these people leave the Lord, but I will never leave the Lord.” He emphasized that I am different from the friends around me. But Peter not only ran away, but denied that he did not know Jesus three times.
In John 21, Jesus said to Peter, “Peter, do you love me more than these seven disciples around you?” asks. “Didn’t you tell me that you loved the Lord more than these disciples, and didn’t you tell me that you would not forsake me even if all the other disciples did? Do you really love me more than these disciples?”
If Peter was a smart man, he would say, “Lord, I was proud. I proudly said that I loved the Lord more than the other disciples.” He must have remembered his bitter mistake. Our mistakes and failures start with pride.
Peter realized this very important fact. “Even if I forsake all the other disciples, I will follow the Lord even to death.” Dunn's bridges were all destroyed. Now I will answer, “Lord, you know that I love you.” lowered.
Dear brothers and sisters, today we do not look at other people but say to the Lord, “I love the Lord.” Please make this existential confession of faith.
Let go of your proud heart of comparing yourself to others and love only Jesus faithfully. This is the most important thing that Peter realized today in the text of John 21. And Peter took up the cross that the Lord had given him and decided to follow the Lord. Just as Peter remembered and decided on the grace he received during today's worship service, I pray in the name of the Lord that it will be a precious time for you to remember the grace you received from the Lord and make a new decision during this time.
