Title [Rev 2:1-7] Ephesus Church 2
The church in Ephesus was definitely a church worthy of praise. It was a church that had the characteristics of the early church with the act of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope. At the same time, he had spiritual discernment and kept away from evil and false apostles. Also, he endured hardships and served diligently for the name of the Lord, and he especially hated heresies such as the Nicolaitans. Even today, if there is such a church, it can be said to be an exemplary church and a church worthy of praise. However, we must not forget that the church in Ephesus was rebuked by the Lord.
3. Rebuke against the church in Ephesus (4-5)
Most churches have two sides. There are positive and negative sides. A desirable church should improve and complement the negative aspects and change them into positive ones. The church in Ephesus was no exception. There were many things to be commanded, but more importantly, there was something to be reproached. The Lord puts more emphasis on this point.
4. Blessings given to winners (7)
The winning here is continuous winning. He is the one who overcomes all temptations, tribulations and persecutions, overcomes the battles against sin and Satan, and overcomes all temptations. Like Paul, he kept the faith. They are given the fruit of the tree of life. It means to give you eternal life. It means to be given a crown of glory. When this word of truth is delivered to the church through the work of the Holy Spirit, let's become all of us who have ears to listen and practice. I hope that the praise and rebuke of the Ephesus Church will be given to the members of our church as a blessed lesson.
