Title Revelation 03:1 Tragedy of the Avatar
Contents Revelation 3:1
People have two strange ambivalence needs. One is the expressive desire to reveal oneself, and the other is the concealment desire to hide oneself. The exquisite harmony of these two aspects is ‘Avatar’, which has been secretly entrenched in our internet culture in recent years. It is an image created by an anonymous culture that has a strong desire to participate, but does not want to step back and reveal itself.
Originally, avatar was a Sanskrit Hindi word meaning an alter ego or incarnation. In ancient India, it was a term to refer to the incarnation of a god who came down to earth. It is being used as a graphic icon to represent itself. The recent movie 'Avatar' based on this is that.
In fact, the movie ‘Avatar’ has a lot of New Age elements. Nevertheless, it has many implications for us modern people. Now, in order to make up for the weakness of their physical limitations, humans create “another self” that is much stronger than their original self, and breathes their own spirit into it to make them move according to their will. In reality, the visible avatar is an illusion, and the reality is itself lying in the cockpit. So when you die, your avatar dies too. In fact, the visible avatar is nothing more than a name attached to it. But the ending scene of this movie is very scary. The real protagonist is sent to the world of eternal death, and instead, the avatar, who was the protagonist's representative, opens his eyes and comes to life.
I think this scene is the tragedy of Avatar. An illusion that has lost its substance and an existence that is nothing but a name... . “We do not look at what is seen, but what is not seen” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Although it is a theologically cautious expression, Jesus Christ was like an avatar of God. It is Jesus Christ that God, not human beings, appeared on this earth in the form of a human being instead of God. Therefore, to see Jesus Christ is to see God. Now people speak of Jesus Christ by seeing us as disciples of Jesus Christ. Also, in this respect, we are considered to be like the avatars of Jesus Christ.
What is clear is the fact that the existence of an avatar depends on the existence of that entity. “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not of Christ” (Romans 8:9).
Although we are wearing the veil of the flesh, we live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit who controls our lives within us. That is a man of the Holy Spirit, a Christian. That's how you can say you're alive.
It is now the last day of 2009. In the meantime, I am afraid that our Korean church has not been rebuked by the Lord and criticized by this society for our actions, like the church in Sardis in the book of Revelation, which is today's text, as 'has a name to live, but is dead'. In the coming new year, we want to break free from the illusion of avatars, present ourselves proudly to the world, and taste the 'freedom of truth' that the Lord gives us.
